And then what happened? An axmouncement was made that school would begin a week late and then on ahalf-day basis, with added restrictions necessary for group safety. The period of adjustment to this routine was interrupted by the regrettable wave of polio which caused the loss of more schooltime, and fears and anxiety for your friends, your families and also your own physical well-being. lt was necessary to curtail all school activities such as dances, suppers, parties, and to postpone the opening of the basketball season, but you did organize and carry through a most successful magazine campaign. The next step was the return to full-day sessions in the school with the almost new look. The aggravations of construction with workmen in and out, no gym, no showers and lockers, no typing class - proved to be no stumbling block because progress was evident. By Christmas the picture was much brighter and things were almost back to normal, Students and teachers alike were more calm and relaxed now that the confusion was over! Reviewing conditions like these is hardly necessary except that out of this chaos some de- finite conclusions can be drawn. Young people of today are made of sterner stuff: can overcome reverses, handicaps, and frustrations without apparent scarsg can accept responsibilities in an adult manner, Never once did I hear a Senior complain or alibig you accepted conditions over which you had no control in a cheerful manner. lwill always remember the Class of 1955 for its cooperation, its loyalty, perseverance and good sportsmanship. Thank you for allowing me to share this year with you, and thanks to your parents for permitting me to share you with them. Yours sincerely, Robert B. S. And the good old high school days, We'l1 remember Della Mae Who seemed without a careg And Dianne, our only redhead with that Fire-engine hair. Bob deForest and his concerto which he always played with easeg And little Barbie Zagata Who was quiet as you please. We'1l recall to mind our Ann who had lots of pretty clothesg And peppy little Kathy who was always on her toes. Polite was Avery Wilson with his broad and friendly smileg And active Chucky Wilber Who did the girls beguile. We'1l have mem'ries too of Margaret Always busy as a beeg And of her friend Jeannette Who was the sweetest we could see. Ray, too, who wore a path Down to the Sophomore doorg And Beverly who filled her Ford With kids and kids galore. We cou1dn't forget Eddie Putnam Who was lots and lots of fung And Wayne-- Cisco could tell jokes To keep up with anyone. We'11 also remember Lorraine Who was tall and blonde and neat: And our friend Willie Dee Whose personality cou1du't be beat. The friendliness of Bill Barnes will stick with us all our days: And we'll remember Conrad With his quiet loyal ways. We'll never forget Bob Schleier Who helped with everythingg And the parties at Joan Male's house which made the rafters ring. Shirley with her foolishness Could always cause a ding And Leon was a Neadle, But was better known as Pin. We'll recall to mind Joan Kliesrath, A wonderful sport was she, And another Joan--Miss Adams Just as lively as could be. And Mike, another classmate, Was quite a whiz in math, And Peter with his wise cracks Could make the saddest laugh. We'll remember Stro and his harmony which we all loved so wellg And another, Clifford Decker who we just thought was swell. Paul Miller was our little guy --He wasn't very tallg And Miles and his fiddle Were nearly best of all. A new girl, Mary Prole Joined us in 1954: Her home was Bristol, England --She came from a foreign shore. We'll remember too, our teachers who guided us all the way, And prepared us--Oh so well For our graduation day. We'll remember each and every one As time begins to passg For we never could forget The friends we called our Class. F .- Class History As our high school years draw to a close, we recall to mind many enjoyable experiences. We sponsored a very successful Leap Year Dance in our Freshman year, followed by a Pan- cake Supper. As Sophomores, we began our festivities by entertaining the entering Freshmen at a party. We held two dances, the Turkey Trot and the Shamrock Shuffle, and our Pancake Supper, which became an annual affair. The grand climax of our Sophomore days came when, in the spring, we received our class rings. Our Junior year was filled with activities, including our Pancake Supper, two dances, and a magic show. We also held our class picnic at White's Beach, and in June, before Mr. Bemard's departure for Plattsburg, we held a farewell party for him and his family at Duane Lake. Now we have achieved our position as Seniors. This year we have become ardent salesmen by selling the most magazines in the history of the school, conducting a Christmas card campaign, and selling school name bracelets and tie clasps. Our activities include two dances, a music show and our Pancake Supper, and we are eagerly awaiting our Senior Ball, Class picnic, Senior Banquet, and graduation. Our four years of high school have been happy and satisfying. As we look over our history, we recall many pleasant memories which we will carry with us as we leave Duanesburg Central, Entering Freshmen - 1951 Ioan Adams David Barbin William Bames Miles Bintz Wayne Blessing Terry Bullis Jeannette Cady Conrad Cobb Shirley Cobb Clifford Decker Michael Dryer Wayne Evans Frank Grant Ann Gross Marjorie Haviland Robert Hoffman Edmond Hulett Ioan Kliesrath Robert Lawrence Joan Male Marguerite Mattison Beverly Mericle Paul Miller Leon Neadle Michael Payst Dianne Putman Edward Putnam Margaret Schaeffer Robert Schleier Raymond Shafer Della Mae Smith Ronald Strobeck Patricia Trombley Lorraine Vosburgh William Weidman Charles Wilber Avery Wilson Katherine Wilson Barbara Zagata Peter Zubal -m5:fL1f,f1fe, ,Tru ,, V WL 5'55,:Ji2fxl,a'?i . ,J ,i 4, 'f fel. if J'-.lik -LIVER 53:1 75 . Phone Schenectady 4-7741 You Cam ever Stop LEARNING I IIGH SCHOOL graduating classes too often are told only that there is a constant need for engineers, technicians and other specialists in American business and industry. That's very true, of course . . . perhaps more so today than ever before. But it is equally true, and too often left unsaicl, that America needs men and women who know the ideals and goals our forefathers strived for . . . men and women who appreciate the things that have made America strong down through the years. This appreciation must go a little deeper than just knowing what democracy is and how it works. It must include a belief in our free enterprise system . . . one of democracy's most priceless heritages. America needs people who understand why this system of com etitive enterprise must be preserved and strengthened, so that our country's standards of living may continue to lead the world. There are, unfortunately, some eople in our own country. . . perhaps even in our own community . . . who would like to sec the free enterprise system weakened or destroyed. To safeguard this vital heritage, you must undmtand it. That means learning, observing and believing long after school days have passed. American industry will certainly continue to need engineers, chemists, economists, and other specialists. But industry feels it equally important that these specialists and all its other people be first and foremost the kind of clear-thinking, under- standing men and women who are good Americans.
