Clziefd of the ri In the fall of '46, the halls of DTHS were filled with 136 freshmen. After we had settled down, and Miss Olive Veach had become our sponsor, we elected our class officers. As the first president of the new class we elected Sherry Payne Gene An dcron was our vice president Betty Hickerr secretary while Mary Ann Sim mons was our treasurer Our class was well represented on the freshman sophomore football team as Gene Anderson Gordon Feazel Bob Keeler Don Stevenson David Green and Norman Heape m de the grade and saw much action on the gr1d1ron On Nov 9 we freshmen enyoyed our first party which consisted largely of dancing and playing of games The boys brought 25 cents to cover decora tion costs and soft drinks while the girls brought the food In the musical revue that was pre sented our first year in high school Barbara Foster Diana Copeland and Nlatena Notaras gave a song ana trance number And still in the l1ne of acting we thought we would entertain our big brothers by giving a pantomme play on Dcc 6 before the assembly The pro glam was entitled Whv the Chimes Rang At our first prom we saw Elalne Pm nick and Gene Anderson representing our cl ss with Shirley Voice a senior being crowned queen The music was furnished by the Southern Collegiates with a theme of My Blue Heaven us a little wiser as ue han all ready h d one vear f higher education We decided that it was time to get som monev into our treasurv 'md so we starteo selling pins with D s on thcm The pins were in school colors of red and black and sold for S100 Oul class officers for this ve r weir- Diana Copeland president Ruth Hunt ington vice president Sherrv Pax ne secretary and Henry Justice treasurer our representatixe to the Student coun cil was Diana Copeland 8 Left to Rlqht Miss Olive Veach sponsor Gene Williams vlce president Gordon Feazel treasurer Normar Heape president Louise Keenq secretary In the sport of football we had five bovs earn varsity letters from the sophomore class Gordon Feazel Bob Keeler David Green Henry Justice and Gene Anderson In connection with football came homecoming in which Ruth Huntington was crowned queen of the festivities Also from our class 1n ruining for the crown w Is Diana Copeland and Connie Metten Henry Justlce Gene Anderson and Gordon Feazel won letters in the cage sport of basketball and Henry Justice won the free shot Our iirst partv of the xe r was hcld Dec 2 in the gym and was a Sadie Hawkins dance At our second party of the year that was held on Amil 2 we played game in the homemaking room aid danced in the yum Gerald Valiel was still the best cornet player in the state as he won the title for the second time in two sears In ba eball our class had llenix Justice Tom Givens and Jack Opp out lor the di mond spoil Irma Fcltsam and Norman Heape were 0-ll choice to represent our class at the nrom which saw June Bastein crowned queen The music was fUll'llSh0d by .lick Staulcups orchestra cContmurd on Page Twenty Fourl 14- A ' - ' . v A .
