USS D UPON T DD-941 SHIP'S ARTIST SH2 ROMEO I GNACI O PH OTOGRA PHI C EDITOR AND ASS'T LAYOUT EDITOR THE STAFF THE MANAGING EDITOR SALES AND PHOTOGRAPHY LT JOHN W LYVER, IV LA YO UT EDITOR ET2 RICKY L. NORTON ISW2 l f M1 For 25 years, this ship called DUPONT has sailec between the 4 corners of the world and crossed eacl of the seven seas. Her hull is filled with the tales anc dreams of those who have sailed with her. But it's not the ship which rules the waves, nor the canines who check her movements but it's her crew whc makes the difference, and it's to that end we salute the last crew of the good ship DUPONT. As a ship ages, and as the seas slowly begin to take their toll, capabilities normally wane. But u v DUPONTS crew would not permit their ship to be BT2 HERBIE second best. DUPONT was awarded the Battle 'E' as the most battle ARMS TRUN G IS W, ready non-missile ship in DESRON 2. This was not the end because 7 months later the crew would earn the most honored Top Hand award as the best ship in the Med between 19 June and 12 Dec 1982. DUPONT was cited by VADM Rowden, Commander Sixth Fleet, for Top Hand excellence in Supply, Weapons, Operations and Engineering in meeting the missions to which her country had called. But our last days are numbered until the Decommissioning Ceremony on 4 March 1983, and until we sadly watch a tug slowly take a dead hull away to her final resting spot in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Along with Decom means splitting the Family DUPONT and ending the DUPONT story. But the missions we've been on, the places we've been, and the friends we've made will last in the hearts and minds of those U.S. Navy Sailors who can proudly say that they were a part of USS DUPONT'S last deployment. The Staff salutes each and every crewmember and wishes each man fair winds and following sas in the future. JWL4
