'3fa .L -vm This page has been alloted to recognize the men of the United States Marine Corps who worked in conjunction with a Multi-National Force of U.S., Italian and French Troops to safely evacuate the PLO and maintain order in the heavily battered city of Beirut, Lebanon. The Second Regiment of the 8th Battalion transported by the USS Guam, USS Nash- ville, USS Hermitage, USS Manitawoc and the USS Saginaw made up the 32nd Marine Amphibious Unit. They were later relieved by the Third Regiment of the 8th Battalion transported by the USS Inchon, USS Shreveport, USS Lamore County, USS Fort Snelling and the USS Sumpter which made up the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit. All these ships are homeported out of Norfolk and Little Creek, Virginia. Marine Detachments came from Cherry Point, North Carolina and Camp Lajune, North Carolina ,., smxxwn. .... . ,j
