The squadron provides aerial and seaborne remotely controlled target services ashore and afloat for fleet training through the use of five deploying detachments. These detachments deploy with their threat simu- lation targetsand assorted support equipment for periods of one week to six months and reach areas of the Caribbean Sea, North and South Atlantic and the Mediterranean. These detachments are trained and equipped to operate independently on de- ployments. The parent squadron is composed of both sea duty and shore duty personnel, including aviation and general service ratings. The unmanned remote controlled targets employed by FLECOM- PRON SIX realistically simulate a variety of enemy threats. At the same time, the artificial safety re- strictions imposed on live firing exercises involv- ing manned systems are removed thereby allowing more realistic training. During UNITAS XIX, FLE- COMPRON SIX utilized the MQM-74C Aerial Tar- get Drone which is a high wing monoplane of con- ventional aircraft design powered by a variable speed turbojet engine. The aerial target will fly at speeds up to 500 knots to a ceiling of 40,000 feet. This target can be used for surface-to-air, and air-to-air guns and missiles. . V Am.. i...iVn Y -I - . 'I I I I S .
