As Radarmen we managed to get involved in just about everything. Our job: collection, evalu- ation, display, and dissemination of information. As a matter of fact, the only other place on a Navy ship where information is as readily available is the salad bar on the Mess Decks. In preparation for the cruise there were many things to be done. Among these were pubs to be corrected, read and re- read, charts to be ordered and placed within quick and easy reach and training for all hands. A highly proficient and coordinated team had to be constructed almost from scratch. Underway! Only a few weeks remained until we reached our assigned area. Were we ready? By the time we reached the amazing city of NPO , we had molded a precision gunfire support machine.
