As we think back over those four years, we wish we could bring back some of those happy moments which remain only as treasured memories. Of course we'll never forget those first few weeks of our freshman year and that feeling of utter confusion, and in the midst of our confusion - Freshman Day. If it hadn't been for our sponsors, Mrs. Major, Miss Elliott, Miss Calkin, Miss Williams, and Mr. Domey, we would probably never have learned our way around school. The highlight of our freshman year was football and basketball seasons. Our girls' team captured the 19th District Championship and were runners-up in Region V. Besides this the boys' team also had a successful season. With Gene Paul Petty as our class president, we completed a successful year with a picnic at Pleasant Green Plunge and the annual trip to Dun- bar Cave. It seemed our summer vacation had only begun when it was time to register for school again. We elected our same class president and settled down to studies. Again we had a successful football team, and as always, our basketball teams won tame. Our girls' team captured the N.I.L. crown and were runners-up in both the district and regional tournaments. The Dunbar Cave trip was again the conclusion to another successful year at DuPont High. Another summer seemed to fly by, and we awoke to find ourselves upperclassmen. Eugene Lunn was elected to take the leadership as class president. This year our girls' and boys' teams won both the district and regional tournaments. This season ended with all of us very proud of both our teams. For our class play, we chose Mumbo Jumbo , a very unusual mystery-comedy. It was a marvelous success, and we added that to the list of our accomplishments. After the play we began to think of and to make plans for the Iunior-Senior Banquet. We chose the Oriental theme and carried it out in decorations and in the food. Annie Eddins was crowned Queen of the Prom by Eugene Lunn. The prom climaxed our memorable Junior year. When the school bell rang again, we found ourselves seniors, at last. We felt, as we saw the freshmen looking as confused as we had, that we had reached the goal that we had longed for. Ronnie Pearson was chosen as our class president and Eugene Lunn was president of the student body. Gene Paul Petty was editor of the annual. Miss Calkin, a most capable sponsor and a true friend, left us, but to take her place, we were fortunate enough to get another good sponsor, Miss Tittsworth. With Zollie Sircy and Gary West as co-captains, our football team finished a successful season. In basket- ball, we had one of the most successful seasons that we had ever had. Both the boys' and girls'teams won the N.I.L. crown, an honor which no other school had won since 1936 when DuPont's teams had the same honor. All of us were engaged in various activities, as if we were trying to crowd all the good things that high school had to offer into the last few months of school. Realizing that we were about to end our high school career, we began to glance back over the experiences I have just related to you. As wehave relived briefly our four years in high school, we realize that we should be the. most grateful of all the classes to have graduated from DuPont High, for we have been blessed w1th all the things necessary to make one's high school career complete. This ship was designed by a most capable staff of scientists with Eugene Lunnl Chester Sher- rill, Randall Binkley, and Wayne Keathley as chief engineers; Nancy Edwards and Bobby Jones served as design artists. After I greet my friends that I haven't seen for several years, we blast off and begin a very memorable trip with our pilot, Robert Selph, at the controls. As I glance to my right, I see Judy Wright, famous for her school of dance, talking to Diane Smith. who is now married to a French ambassador. We are entertained by Ronnie Pearson's world famous combo composed of Kenneth Aldridge, Dean Robinson, Wendell Short, Iohn Garner, and Donald Mc- Broom with Kay Orange at the piano. That delightful singing group, the KeenTeens, have just recorded another million-record seller for the Mecca record company owned by Joe Bingham, Pete Womack, and Teddy Armstrong. Doyle Newburry also provides entertainment with his famous magician's act. These groups have just finished an engagement at the night club owned and ,operated by Hugh Crosslin and Ray Hudnall. Speaking of entertainment - We mustn't forget Iack McAlister, and his part with the famous Three Jays who are still doing quite well for themselves. In one small group, we hear talk of politics and investigate further to hear Senator Weems and Senator Osborne talking to Carrie Keller. delegate to the United Nations. Another politician in our midst is Wayne Bastin, the sheriff of Davidson County. In charge of all our food for the trip are John Cameron, Carl Conner, and Julius Huffines who now head chains of grocery stores. Our meals are made complete by the choice recipes of Judy Polk and Iean Tuthill. Peggy Mercer, Marylene Jackson, and Judy Frye, acting as our hostesses, are always around to make sure we are enjoying our trip. 'The famous TV wrestler, Paul Bain, is teaching Kenneth Kimbro, manager of Woolworth's , some new holds . Ralph Gragg, Jerry Lee, and Charles Bennett are busy talking about their success in the field of sports-car racing. John Burlison, famous pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is telling Zollie Sircy, football coach at Notre Dame and Gene Watson, football coach at UCLA, about the Dodgers' victory over the Yankees. Colleen Hosey is talking so much to Alice Dorrier, editor of the New York Times, and to Janice Bullion, Joyce Brodie, and Iudy Reeves t all who now have their own basketball teamsy about her eight boys that she hardly gives Iudy Eller, world's golf champion. a chance to tell about her most exciting life. Most of the men seem to be flocking to a small room at the back of the ship where Austin Kinzer has set up a small pool room. Around the pool tables we see some very distinguished looking business- men: Aubrey Meece. Ed Sharp, Ierry Webster, Fred Lane, Alfred Ferguson. Bill Ferrell, Leslie Fisher. and Bill King. The shark of the game is John Flatt, Olympic prize-winner in pole-vaulting. Celia Moody, now famous as a comedian, is planning a program for the DuPont Primary School with a group of teachers at that school - Iudy Malone, Brenda Kyle, Ioan Mullins, Joyce Roberts, Toni Gambill, Linda Head, Dot Houdeshell, and Judy Cox. Celia now has a TV show co-starring Wanda Worsham and Nancy Shipman, Margaret Iackson and Faye Taylor doing a baton twirling act. Beverly Warren now owns a large farm noted for chickens and horses. Donnie and Ronnie Moser are foremen of the 500-acre farm, and Gary West does a fine job in training her thoroughbred racing horses. Judy Rogers, famous hair-dresser, is giving the Paris models - Beverly Nunley. Norma Pope, Cynthia Sampson, Suzanne Evans, Patsy Gallaher, Frances Brown. Priscilla Hayes, and Joyce Love - tips on hair grooming. Of course, as always, Alfred Ballinger is telling of his duck-hunting experiences while Jerry Wil- liams tells his fish tales, and Mike Evans, architect responsible for the highest skyscraper in New York, has to listen to all this. We hear that Old Hickory, the small town we once knew, has grown into quite a place. Russell Brown now owns a drug store. Robert Farley - a department store, and John Skelley - the local dairy- dip. Tommy Wilson is now plant manager of the DuPont Plant. And, believe it or not, Jimmy Woosley is head of the local police force. Yeah! Doctor Ioe Stepbach, with his most capable staff of nurses, Diane Wallace, Mary Kirk Slayden, Becky Boatman, and Judy Ballinger, is busy giving pills for space sickness. Some of our classmates had to leave their families in order to make this trip - Joyce Pope, Myrna Moore. Dot Smith Hurt. Jean Worley, Linda Cooper Petty. and Wilma Hall. Iudy Groves. the private secretary of Gene Paul Petty, President of the United States, stays pretty busy for she must keep in touch with Washington at all times. Lavelia Sweeton and Martha Morgan, the only old-maids on the trip, are both chasing Bobby Fischer, the most eligible bachelor aboard. Emelyn Redmond, the first woman senator from Tennessee, is dictating letters to her secretary, Joyce Littlejohn. We have just been wondering What has happened to some of our classmates who are not on this a trip. As we near the meon, we see them - Donnie Loman, Lois Meadows, Tommy Reich, Shirley Weeks, Jimmy Edwards, James Eddins, Henry Hamilton, Bobby Bain, June Carter, and Mary Dodd - there to greet us. As we end this memorable day, we know it has been one which we'll never forget. We will all look forward to the next reunion of the great class of '58.
