CLASS HISTORY As graduation draws near. there appears in every senior's heart the longing for reminiscence and upon their faces isawistful gaze interrupted only by an occasional tear. Now and then the question, Remem - ber? , breaks the silence and then flows, unrestrained, the talk of happy moments and treasured memories. Whatcrazy outfits we wore on freshman initiation day! We were just as confused as we looked! Need- ing help, we turned to our sponsors, Miss Perry, Mrs. Pilkinton, Mrs. Gammel, Mr. Dennis, Mr. Cleve- land, and Mr. Smith. Finally becoming reasonably settled, we elected James Fyke as president of our class. Our freshman year was memorable! The Bulldogs, for the first time in several year5, beat Litton in the Clinic Bowl. The basketball teamwouldn' I take a back seat either, and the girls' team went on to win the District Tournam ent Championship! How could we ever forgetotir freshman square dance! Everyone was so excited; this enthusiasm con- tinued throughout the year. Filled With excitement because Of the coming summer but a little saddened for we were freshmen no more--we spent our last day at Dunbar Cave. At the ringing of the bell we put aside the joys of summer and with an unpredictable spirit, entered our sophomore year.E1ecting Faye Baggett as our class president and with Our new sponsors, Coach Hun- ter and Coach Falkenberry, we set out to make ourselves known. Beihg 'well represented on bOth basketball teams, our reputation spread as the boys' team completed a successful year, and the girls' team captured the 19th District Championship and were also the runner-up in Regional V. Our trip to Cedar Forest was only one of themany unforgettable occasions, and with Dunbar Cave as a finale, thercurtain .closed upon our second year. Throughout the summer we waited eagerly for coming schoolyear.1n our first attempt at being upper classmen, we elected Randall Burke to take on the responsibility of leading us. To assist him was Mr. Lan'gham who joined our list of wonderful sponsors. - 1 As in previous seasons, our basketball teams became notable! The determined girls' team captured .theN 11. L. crown and they added a few jewels by being runners-up in both the District and Regional Tour - naments. 1 . i . ' , i For our class .play we picked an appropriate one entitled Growing Pains . It was so typical of our lives that actually very little acting was needed. I i After a most successful play, we began to concentrate on the Junior-Senior Banquet. Seeking origi- nality, we turned to Miss Calkin and Mrs.Gamme1,for1eadership, and with much effort we presented the theme Underwater Wonderland Anita Allen became Sweetheart of the From and amid'gazes of ' envy and awe was crowned by Randall Burke. . Yes, our prom was unforgetable and combined with many other successes, it climaxed a most memor- able year! 0111' Junior year! 1 My, how the summer flew! Before We turned around twice we found ourselves in school again. But this time there were quite a few changes. Such an air of superiority made it quite obvious what had hap- pened. We were Seniors at last! 1 . It didn' ttake us long to assume our many responsibilities as Billy Swahn became our Senior Class Pres - ident and Nancy Johnson, President of the Student Body Also taking charge -of things was Jimmy Fuqua who edited the annual We welcomed also Mrs. Nelson as a new sponsor! We were leaders and we proved it as Paul Skelley and Billy Fields captained our football team to one of its most successful years. Our beloved classmates were scattered throughotit every activity. Into everything and rarely out of anything we soon found our final year drawing rapidly to a close. Such morn ents of realization bring forth the mem ories which we have just relived 1 ' Now, that tearful atmosphere which previously existed has given way to a slowly moving crimson wave of gratefulness And it is easily understood for these seniors have been wonderfully blessed with so many cherished moments to remember. As I look across the lake through my little telescope, I see the former Sharon Hosey and her crew of 15 kids sailing down the lake in their 100 foot yacht, powered by the new atomic motor invented by Dr. Halton Gross, Professor of Nuclear Physics at M. I. T. The former Suzanne Gamme1,now married to a prominent doctor, has justbeen splashed as she and her five sons sit fishing with what? -- ted wigglers dug by Curtis Brewington. Pat Apple, Bitsy Lawson, and Melva Harding, who tried too early and waited too late to get a husband, are organizing a lonely hearts club. Pat Burch and Carl Franklin, two prominent dental surgeons, have just arrived from New York City in their .hydro-copter. On their way down they stopped at Pittsburgh to give their regards to the honorable Billy Rutledge and Maxwell Draper who are campaigning for the Presidency and Vice-Presidency of the United States. Meanwhile on the now famous Old Hickory Golf Course, Doug Hall, Howard Baggett, Joel Vinson, andJohn Houdeshell are battling it out for the National Open Championship. On yonder hill Bill Swann, who took the T. V, famous Bob Cumming's place, is taking pictures of some of his models. Among themiiare Malissa Knott, Linda Glover, and Elaine Cothron. Just arriving at the Old Hickory Municipal Airport from Europe in the newest atomic plane are Tommy Pat- ton and Milton Smith who have been attending a meeting for the planning of the first trip to Mars. Meanwhile the lives of Eddie Gross, Franz Larkin, and Billy Carroll, who are members of Elvis Presley' ssym- phony orchestra, are in grave danger for Phil Lannorn. Billy Fields and Billy Hardin are drag racing on the beach. As we look over the lake we see many familiar faces. Among them are Gara Graham, Rebas Bastin, Paula Bilbrey, and Pat Womack who are now nurses. Floating on water wings, because they still haven'tlearned to swim, are Dot Hunter and Mary Etta Dick. who now own a jewelry store in Los Angeles, California.
