Coach Biology Business Education Industrial Arts Y' wi 'Y :ft is t- 2 Qx 5 Q.. -A .2- 0 ,kv- X I' X in -- sp. -vf' v P Fu! 3' N1 L 'I THE CLASS HISTORY I remember as lf it were yesterday that brlght sunny day when with approximately 150 other green freshmen I first stood at the portals of Du Pont High School How big the place looked and how cold' There we stood in small groups awaiting the bell that would take us into an altogether different world Yes that Septem ber day in 1946 marked the beginning of four years of high school whlch are now endmg ln graduatlon We started the year right with the usual con fusion and of course 1n1t1at1on After these preliminary actions were over we settled down to the busmess of making a place for ourselves 1n dear old Du Pont We had very capable leaders ln our sponsor Mrs Gwmner and our presldent Harold Fitzpatrick The members of our class soon began to d1st1ngu1sh themselves ln various fields For example jackie Graham was elected as a cheerleader and Dorothy Woodard was an attendant to the Football ueen All of us were proud of Carland De Rossette when he made the Varsity Football Team Others of our class distinguished themselves 1n the field of sports also Our class party was the chief social March 21 and one of the most successful partles of the year Then came the intramural basket ball games Our girls covered themselves with glory and received the admiration of the other classes when they won All too soon vacatlon arrived and we had to say good bye to our many senior frlends and untll next year to those who would be returning After a brief but enjoyable summer we again turned our steps toward school This year we had a new sponsor Miss Osborne and as presl dent Lamarr Shipman We werent too lmpor tant this year as we were neither freshmen nor upperclassmen Some of our members were prominent m the field of sports especlally ean ICC Mxdgett and Betty Jo Anderson who were members of the City Champion Tennis team Also we won the lntramural basketball games When the time for the student body electlon came eamce Mxdgett became the first school historian for Du Pont Thus we quietly began and ended our second year of high school YVhen school reopened ln September we Joy fully hurried through the door This year we were upperclassmen and felt very important We started the year right with Mlss Osborne and Billy Travls as our sponsor and presldent To begin w1th we placed three members on the cheerleading squad Then several of our boys started their career on the varsity football team Patsy McCaleb one of our glflS was crowned Football Queen while Nlary Lou Barton and Betty Sue Donnell were two of her attendants After football came basketball That year we had a wonderful team runners up for the State Championship Although we placed several members on the squad J L Frazier was our hero when he made the -XllD1str1ct All Unlt All Regional and -X11 State teams The girls 1n the meantime were playing good ball but were over shadowed by the boys Members of our class played important parts ln baseball and tennis also One of the most lmportant events of the year was our Junior play Spring Fev er It was sand to have had the best attendance of any play at Du Pont 1n many years Then came the unlor Senior Banquet How hard we worked and how proud we were when it was a success Along about this tlme we had the student body elections eamce Mldgett when the electxon was over became the second girl president at Du Pont High to be elected by popular vote As the year was drawing to a close Jeantce Mxdgett man and Don Knles to attend Boys State As we sald good bye to the seniors we began to real 1ze that next year ll would be us leavlng At last after a long vacatlon our senior year rolled around How sad we felt as we sa1d good bye to Mr Brinkley who had helped us to successfully become seniors YVe welcomed Mr Edwards and trled to make h1m feel as much at home as the freshmen Agaln this year Miss Osborne was our sponsor but we had a new presldent Bobby Tubbs On October 3 the b1g day arrlved we recelved our rmgs Thls year Btlly Travis was captain of the football team with Bobby Tubbs as alternate -Xt th1s time the basketball season has just started and we hope they will have a successful one oyce Gupton and Patsy McCaleb are the captains for the girls whtle C Frazier and Sidney Ford are captains for the boys Now as we are reaching the end of our Jour ney and graduation is IH slght we would llke to thank our teachers for what they have done for us and to say that 1n the future we wlll try to live up to the standards of our Dear Alma Nfater Doms CARTER Class Hzstomm - 7 - Y . , .
