Courageously we young Freshmen were enter- ing tto usj the unexplored country. We knew that this land of High School was inhabited by one tribe, the Sophomores and that we would have to be very brave if we expected to overcome the obstacles which would be placed in front of us. For the first two months it was hard, for on every side we were met with ridicule and scorn. But it was not as hard as some Freshmen Hnd it. for we were only a two-year high school at that time. We Freshmen banded together with the slogan, All for one, one for all, and elected as class president Maudlne Gibbons. We grew braver as the year sped by and had our clan meetings and our parties. and even started talking of what we would do when we passed the council board and were Sophomores. Thus ended epoch one. Epoch II - No longer afraid we stood and with eager eyes looked over this new land. We rejoiced that we were now in the tribe of the Sophomores, as we had vanquished them. and they running from us had joined the Juniors. VVe worked hard exploring every bit of this new land, but enemies- some in the disguise of cupid and others from a distance-came and took some of our beloved Sops. We called a clan meeting with Maudine Gibbons, again our president. and vowed to stand closely together. We were overcoming the Juniors rapidly now and they were hastening toward the tribes of the Seniors. At last the victory was ours. We were the Juniors. Epoch III This time we 'stood and disdainfully surveyed our country. We were proud and arrogant of our new tribal name and egotistical enough to think that we had explored all that was explorable. We elected as president Maudine Gibbons and started another year. Before that year of exploring ended we were becoming humble again. We had lost a few of our members and gained none and there was still so much to be explored. The Senior tribe was retreating from our onward march. Day by day we were drawing closer. Ah! we had them, we were victorious. Thus comes epoch four. Epoch IV This time not eagerly, but disdainfully, and not frightened. but sad, so sad at the thought of this our last year in the building of our young dreams and the land of unexplored country. We are drawing near the close of our campaign. It is now our time to follow the Senior tribe. Follow bravely, but let us co-operate with our president. Maudine Gibbons, and leave behind us a trail of glory, honor and sympathy to others. VVe are now far stronger. for our tribe has grown with the entrance of new members. Dear teachers, one and all, we tearfully say goodbye and, friend Juniors, to you we say: FolloW. follow. how our voices ring, Follow, follow us in the spring. Through these tears dimming our eyes, VVe are shouting to you, schoolmates. we'vo tried. DOLORES SPOONTS, Historian. I visited Columbia University, where I found Gray Sands as head football coach. When I arrived in Baltimore a fire truck came tearing down the street. I recognized James I-lite as one of the firemen. A gentleman told me that this was the Hrst time in a month that James had awakened in time to catch the truck. We were first granted a two-year High ,S School in the fall of 1926, but did not attempt to play foot- ball that year. When the winter months came on we tried to develop a basketball team, but being handicapped with only a few students it was not a great success. The following term when school opened they added another year to the High School Department, making a three-year High School. VVe also received a cc-ach who tried to develop a football team. Al- though it was our first year in football and not a full four-year school, we turned out a good football team that the school was proud of. Then came the old cage season. With a good coach we turned out two good basketball teams who won for themselves a great record. The following fall we were granted a full four-year High School and with a new and more experienced coach he developed a real foot- ball team that only met defeat o-nce that season. Then came Thanksgiving and back to basketball again. Our new coach proved himself to be an excellent coach for both boys and girls. VVhen the cage season was over we did not try to develop a base- ball team. Back to school with a new grid season which proved to be very suc- cessful from every standpoint that a team can be judged. Then came December and a new cage season. A new coach was appointed to assist in coaching basketball. She was assigned to the girls as coach. Mr. Ferguson remained as coach for the boys. 26 4lFmA,,f.z 'vr '3' Q . -' ':.-:few k ., . xi'- mafazsd F eg ., -. , ,Z K - .vezyuem --psf.-stywfis-...s i -:sG've, , ' F me-ew ' I .....
