Our Principal The theme for the 1959 DuPontian cer- tainly is a timely one. Outer Space today is a scientific expression-ten years ago it was the name of a comic book. I wonder if our student body is familiar with the termi- nology, as it might be used to apply to pre- sent school life and future adult living? Shall I translate a few common terms? LAUNCHING PAD Success in school and life is tied so closely to home environ- ment. The family that shares the joys and problems of every-day living, will send the child through school with a strong probabil- ity of no miss-fires in life. Are you doing your share to create this type of launching pad? BOOSTER STAGES In the process of growth, we pass through several stages in personality. In our childish days we are likely to blast-off at parental control. These tantrums disappear in teen days to give proper direction to adult thrust into life. Are your Booster Stages normal or have you failed to progress past stage one of imma- turity and self-centeredness? ROCKET PROPELLANT The ultimate objective in scientific power is solid fuel. If you are ready for a DuPontian Yearbook, your driving force should be recognizable. It must be a solid desire to amount to some- thing. Ambition is a powerful propellant. Do you have this solid --as jive would ask? SATELLITE A body in earth's orbit. All of our educational glory, make a flashy splurge and soon burn out. Will life's prob- lems burn up your future? TRANSMISSION OF DATA The avowed objective of scientific forces in our United States is not War but Peace. We hope the product of DuPont High will be firmly con- structed in moral fiber and bound together in learning eagerness. They shall go forth into space to gather useful gems that will be re- turned to swell the great mass of knowledge called life. Are you ready for outer space?

Solving problems of school and home life is not the only job of the dean. Schedule changes, a boy in trouble and taking care of absences are all included in his busy routine. Throughout the schoolday, he is always ready to lend a helping hand. Our Deans Seated behind the desk, over which many varied and curious conversations take place, is our dean, VIOLET CAMPBELL. Walk into her office and you will never find her idle. A few of her many tasks around DuPont are the arranging of students schedules, coun- seling girls on every subject from matrimony to Mendelssohn, or loaning money to a girl who just discovered there is a ballgame and she has no change. 9
