OUR REAL POSSESSION MEMORIES ln future years, the Flipper will remind us of our last year in high school. We'll remember: Our terrific football team that lost only one game all year, the opener with Altoona-Gene Nlikelonis, our D.H.S. Express, who was named to the all-state first team for the second year by both the AP. and U.P. and named on the All-American fifth team-that our own Duke Burkholder was selected coach of the year--the pep rallies and send-ofifs which were led by our effervescent cheerleaders-the D made of white carnations presented to our school by the Punxsy cheerleaders. Our smart and talented band that presented such entertaining shows at football games and concerts-also the special instrumental group that played at basketball games and wrestling matches-the district band that was held at Reedsville, Pa., with Betty l.aBorde, Ginger Mottorn, Florence Pringle, Gayle Maier, Ronny Thomas, Bill Clark, Bud Thunberg, and Terry Plyler representing D.H.S. That the school received a face-lifting during the summer months: also new shrubbery and a new lawn was planted-that on the inside of the building, Principal E. j. Mansell's ofiice was renovated-that Mrs. Dorothy fupp joined the teaching staff and Samuel Gibson returned after his leave of absence-that Avis Hetrick replaced Norma Reister as secretary in the office. Our dances and parties held in the gym, hoe- down of the year was the Sadie Hawkins party-- room 16 won first prize for their Christmas decorations-Christmas vacation, then back to Seniors conducted campaigns for council semester exams. That Hi-Varieties took place at a dude ranch -Doxie Garski represented our school at the Flaming Foliage Festival-that the basket- ball squad, wrestling squad, and cheerleaders journeyed to Amityville, New Yorkvthat Ruth Dungey was our apple baking queen. That room 17, a money-mad mob, led in the charity drivesfthat Margaret Brubaker, Dee Curry, and Doxie Garski went to the State Student Council Convention in William Gratton's new red Buick, Penny four student council sent representatives to the first All-State Student Council Summer VVorkshop at Pennsyl- vania State University-that hillbilly music was played over the PA.-that the vocal concerts, plays, and assemblies were great. Those cool assignments, reports, exams, and term papers-that the boys' locker room was moved where the girls' locker room used to be- that crazy, mixed-up day when the tornado hit DuBois and we didn't know whether school was in session or not. Milton Brubaker won the state championship in the 138 lb. class in the finals at Pennsylvania State University-Robin Crytser and Ed Borrelli were district champs, Tom Carlson and jim Garski were runners-up in the district matches held in DuBois-Gene Mikelonis was named to the district basketball first team, AI Ranieri and Bill Rearick to the second, and Tom Allshouse received honorable mention. Then, the Coronation of Doxie Garski and Tom Carlson-finally, the Prom, Move-lfp Day, and graduation, concluding a wonderful year. officers and had chest X-rays during the year.
