Mfssouer To All Members of Hlhe Drury Familyzn Drury is on the threshold of a period of growth and development. The next few years will open new opportunities hitherto unknown and onforseeh., I predict that Wlhe Forty Acresn will receive important and needed new buildings. I forsee the expansion of the faculty both in numbers and in its proiessional quality. l expect that the student body will increase conservatively in size and at the same time it will be selected by steadily increasing qualitative standards. I do not doubt that there will be improvements made in the curriculum and in teaching procedures which will reflect an appreciation of the importance of the liberal arts. l fully expect a considerable growth in the cultural and intellectual climate here--not that more Wegg-headsn ' may be produced, but that the rank and file will increasingly be caught up in the zest of creative mental and spiritual expansion. All this means emphasis upon excellence, If this reading of the crystal-ball proves to be correct,.it will require effort, planning, cooperation, and dedication on the part of all concerned. To this commitment I propose that each man and woman at Drury should enthusiastically give assentp ' ' V ' Sincerely, X. ' ' V Dr. and Mrs. Findlay at a banquet held ' J. F. V tl., , , 3 P, , L1 ig 5 TUDE SE ATE Student Body President DAVE OLIVER Under my leadership, the,Drury College stu- dent cabinet was again initiated on campus. This was perhaps the most important' element of change for student government. In addi- tion to the Cabinet, the traditional traffic court for campus violators was again estab- lished and carried out a late, but effective, program. The all school social committee was a success, having near sell-out attendance at most of its functions. The publicity committee was a fine instrument for getting progress reports and activities to the student body. The athletic committee was active in response to the intramural program presented by the faculty representatives and the athletic director of the college. The so- cial affairs committee was most active during the year, planning the social events for the school calendar. It was a great year-but as always it could have been even greater. Responsibility, understanding and communication should, be the ele- ments for a successful administration. And it is the responsibility of the student body president to initiate, direct, and moti- vate other campus leaders to follow these guidelines. by Dave Oliver I I I I I I I I I W I 53 A, Barbara Jones, Editor OU,WE TER STAFF Louise Riley, Art and Classes Editor Jean Cottingham Greek Editor Barbara Miller Business Manager Kiah Warden Photographer John Russell Asszstant Buszness Manager SOU WESTER STAFF MEMBERS Barbara Jones Nancy Allen Barbara lVl1ller ,lohn Russell Jean Cottlncham Trudy lVl1nard Betty Muldrow Lourse Rlely Betty Rozzell D1ck Stoddard Klah Warden Falth W1ll1HmS Francls W1ll13mS Bob Powell Edztor Asszstant Edztor Buszness Manager Asszstant Bustness Manager Greek Edztor Or anzzatzons Edttor g Faculty ana' Admznzstratzon Edztor Art Edztor Classes Actwztzes Edztor Sports Edztor Photographer .Campus Vzszlors Edztors Advzsor 9 r B FAIRBANKS MCCULLAGH -'K v rv'- 'ff1ii.5Q 3-'.:zf'4t ,Q 'VL ,-QQ? f f QL' ff, dnl: L34-x, sv NEW MEN S 2 J.
