' fiom WESTED illi 7 X Q--2 A Word From Drury's President One must be skeptical who can study Drury's condition and not see in its ideals, its held, and its position won and held among other institutions, a great future opening up before the college. From the beginning of its academic career it has held tenaciously to a grade of scholarship and to moral and spiritual values which after forty years are beginning to get for it an enviable reputation among educators and technical and professional schools all over the land. The fact that the number of bona fide college students has practically doubled in the last six years is proof that the institution is meeting the needs of students who live within the Held of the college. Such an increase cannot be cared for without a corresponding tax on the ability of the school to meet the needs. At the cost of a steadily increasing drain on its financial resources, the various departments of the cultural type of teaching have been able to meet demands up to this present, but in order to continue this work, aside from providing any addi- tional work, we are forced to enter into a campaign for 35001100 addi-- tional endowment which, when completed, will not only insure the present high grade of work in existing departments, but will make possible the addition of one or two more courses, such as domestic science, the need of which is apparent in the light of the number of requests received for such work. The opportunity which the college offers is in a sense to be meas- ured by the large body of Alumni who are now successfully at work in all parts of the world. To them the college looks for loyal sup- port of its scholastic and moral ideals so that the opportunity which was afforded to them as students may be offered to other young men and young women without prejudice. The Alumni have done nobly and the college is proud of them. In view of the present conditions and the efforts of all the friends of the institution to place it on a sound financial basis, we can con- fidently look forward to an increasing student body, a strengthened force of instructors, and a still larger place for the college than that which it now holds among the institutions of the state and nation. But whatever its financial progress, we hope for it at all times a steady clinging to those ideals, intellectual, moral, physical and spiritual which, more than any other one thing, have placed it in the front rank of colleges of its class. ,ffm- A IT.-im 'ra
