SOU'WESTER NINETEEN. TEN ,Hn Jqppreciafion. INCE Dr. joseph Henry George became President, three new buildings have been placed on the Drury campus-the Gymnasium, Classical Hall, and the Central Heating and Lighting Plant. As the immediate erection of all of these buildings has been due to the determination and energy of the President, so they may well typify the more important though less conspicuous work done by him for Drury. The Gymnasium, standing for physical development, speaks to those who would hear of the masterful way in which Dr. George has brought order out of that which was well-nigh chaos at the time of his election. A campaign for a quarter of a million, ia- complete and disorganized, was set to rights and the amount raised in little more than a year. Further plans for half a million more are now being perfected to meet the growing demands of the growing College. Classical Hall, with its broad halls and well-fumished class-rooms, typifies the broader courses, the enlarged and re-adjusted curriculum of the new administration. With an eager interest, an untiring patience, and a never-failing fairness, Dr. George has planned and worked over every phase of the College course until its increasing advant- ages are most evident with each yearly catalogue. The Central Healing and Lighting Plant, though its connections are not conspic- uous, is the source of warmth and light for the entire system. So President George has warmed the hearts and brightened the hopes of Faculty, Alumni, and student body. One can really feel a different atmosphere since he came upon the campus. With a large comprehension of the possibilities of the College, he is not unmindful of an immediate need of the individual student: with an ever-ready cordiality to the friends of the Col- lege abroad, he combines a friendship no less cordial for the humblest student who may need his help: in addition to generous personal gifts of money, he offers a far more valuable contribution of untiring and unselfish service. And so the students and all friends of Drury admire and love him. No one man can control the future of Drury College: the satisfying of her ever- increasing demands is too large a task for any person alone. By a united effort on the part of all. our College may be made to stand forth as great and sturdy and strong for the right as her President stands among his fellow-men. 9
