EMORIES 0F . . . This year's Homecoming Week fOct. 28-Nov. 31 was a success. There was a great response from the student body in participation. We started off the week with funny hats and our coolest sunglasses. Then on sweats day we were al- lowed to dress down in sweat pants and sweat shirts. There were lots of outrageous costumes on Halloween dress up day. We all mellowed out in our shorts and shades for California Mellow Day. The week ended with Color Day Kwon by the juniorsj, a pep rally and later that night-The Blue and White Dance. Finally, came the long awaited event-the Drury-Hoosac game! if ,y .af X - e if U S J i 2 r EMORIES OF CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY This year's Christmas Assembly, sponsored by the Pep Club, was a great success. Many seniors, direct- ed by Marie Crosby, presented A Charlie Brown Christmas play. Several rock bands, including Mr. Scerbo's latest, had people dancing in the aisles. Santa and his elves made a special appearance to dis- tribute gifts to the lucky winners of the name drawing contest. New advisors, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Chilson brought refreshing new ideas to the organization. In October, the council sponsored a successful blood mobile drive, collecting 45 pints of blood. During the winter, the group provided community support by holding a can goods drive and Christmas caroling at local elderly projects. They held a successful Winter Carnival dance under the title Purple Rain . Then in March they joined the We Are The World campaign by taking a collection for the Ethiopian Fund. Finally in April and May the council took part in an exchange with neighboring Hoosac Valley, which proved to be extremely successful. The officers of the council were: Sec. jill Morin, V. Pres. They met every Thursday at 1:30 to ski at Jiminey Peak and did not return until 7:30. In spite of the fact that mother nature pro- vided very little snow, the group managed to have a great time. Mr. Solari and Ms. Donnelly ac:- companied the club to the slopes. Mr. Solari gives instructions. EMORIES CF This year the Drury Drama Club put on the play, Once Upon a Matressn, under the direction of Thorman I-Iulse, Carl jenkins, and Marlene Walt. The play was a huge success, largely due to the actors and actresses who performed. Special Commendation goes to Dan Coyne who played a mama's- boy prince ruled by his overbearing mother played by julie Racette, who turned in an outstanding performance. The play was beautifully narrated by Lori Cain and the role of the King was cleverly acted by Jim Pytko. Shannon Scully gave a magnificant performance as the court jester. ,Q lf C B Marshall Bam . . qu ,fp Min The two lovers created by Tim Gloster and 4 U Brenda Tetasecca sang their way into the J hearts of the audience. Towards the end of the school year, the mem- bers are given the opportunity to compete with other schools at a Regional Conference. After graduation, the advisor and students work towards job matching and placement, and for 9-months the Job Specialist keeps in contact with the partici- pants, to ensure their satisfac- tion with their work. Secondly the season uncovered some very strong under- classmen. Second-year runners Tammy Morocco and Michele De- lisle were in the top five along with first-year runner Rennee Gagnon. Since there were only four seniors on the team, many juniors and even some soph- omores filled the gap. This lack of experience was a major cause of the team's 1-7 record. Despite the disappointment of a losing season, co-captains Jeff Lus- sier and Matt McCarthy, along with seniors Mike Keleher and Mike Girard, had many Personal triumphs. jeff Lussier played very consistently all season. He sparked the defensive line and had a out- standing performance against Hoo- sac Valley. Matt McCarthy al- though hampered by an injury led the team's defense as well as greatly contributing to the offense throughout the season. These ac- complishments earned him a spot on the Western Mass first offen- sive and defensive teams. Mike Keleher's duties went be- yond his position as quarterback. He also punted and returned kick- offs. As head of the offense he threw for over 200 yards against Mohawk and tossed three touch- down passes in the Hoosac Valley game. He was named as Western Mass first team punter and defen- sive halfback. Mike Girard's sea- son was highlighted when he was named as the Springfield Honor role offensive player of the week, with a 102 yard, 3 touchdown per- formance against Pittsfield High School. fggjk W' 'I E .aa QQ WY 1- T -I 'ul l' U TLT' Q 'S if Sh 2 .I 51 , uur Q ' 9 Q lilly. 1 9 ?1H I', Q 1 I Wa Q 'i , i I' riff I' - - 1 fr ll 4 'tai-W .15 ' . The team gave everyone in the county a run for their money, and managed two exciting upsets against Mt. Everett and Pittsfield, both of which were decided in the final match when sopho- more Steve Potvin, who moved up from the 187 pound weight class in both cases posted key victories. Other key wrestlers included juniors Matt LaMere and Mark Hamilton, a first year wrestling standout, a mounu- ment Western Mass champion in the Christmas Tour- nament and highlight in the 84-85 season. Unfortu- nately Mark was injured later in the season and was unable to participate in the Western Mass tournament. Other season highlights included Western Mass championships by Andy Potvin and Dan Trombley and a second and fourth place finish by Trombley at the State and New England tournaments respectfully. Coach Brian Collins also arranged a number of meets with schools outside of the county, taking the Drury grapplers to Niskyuna, NY and Lowell. Even though all this is true, we want instead to recap our last week before the grand finale: Graduation. Our weeklong celebration began with our banquet at Bounti-Fare on Wednesday, June 5. We were impressed by the humor, good or bad, displayed by our class officers during their toasts. It was on this night we announced the yearbook dedication to Mr. Pecor, a well-deserving man. The celebration took a more serious tone on Thursday, june 6th when we, as a class, collected more than 5110,000 in scholarships at Class Night. As for Friday and Saturday nights we're sure everyone celebrated the upcoming event in their own special way. But then stood before us: Sunday, June 9th, Commencement '85. Here is our wish for you, our fellow graduates: This was a most outstanding day Among life's celebrations- A time to pause and offer congratulations . . . A time to wish you many joys Throughout the years in store. And hope for your success in all the things That you are striving for. Congratulations and Best Wishes, Michele Bush Jennifer Gould Co-editors 77 DREAMS ARE THE TCUCH 1' TONES OF OUR RACTERS CLASS ODE DREAMS REMAIN . So this is what we've waited for was all we said, They say these were the best years of our lives. We'll look into each others eyes as we move away. thinking of the years to come, thinking What will become? Will we ever be together again? We talk of good things and of bad, of things to come. We stumble over words we long to hear. We talk about the dreams we have to conquer now. We'll go out into the world, facing each new day on our own Starting a new life, not Forgetting the old. Those many nights when we were young, we bragged of things we d never done We were dreamers and achievers . . . And in our haste to grow too soon we left our innocence within this school We were dreamers and achievers . , . at Drury High. We'll always hear the whispers of our high school times. They echo in the corners of our heart. The times we've shared, the ways we've cared won't fade away, All the words we meant to say, every moment that we made, Will remain in the halls of our school. And now we'll go our seperate ways, but we will never forget ou We were dreamers and achievers . , . Moments pass and time moves on, but dreams remain just as long there are dreamers and achievers from Drury High! Lori Cain julie Racette x ., ,N - Vswfg-..g QT SYS SXO YS ff' XX Z - .
