STUDENT LIFE What makes Drury High School different from all other schools? Is it all the open space and classrooms without walls? Is it the administrators and counselors who help and guide students' futures? Is it the facul- ty that enriches the students with knowledge? Is it the students who till the halls with laughter? Is it the sports' teams that bring glory to the school with their numerous victories and championships? Is it the band and chorus who enter- tain at numerous school func- tions? Is it the clubs and organiza- tions that allow students to become involved in activities beyond the classroom? Drury High School was first built with the intentions of allow- ing people more freedom of movement through the use of open space. This made Drury dif- ferent from the traditional high schools which have closed, in- dividual classrooms. Since most students have never been in this kind of atmosphere, in the begin- ning, they find difficulty in ad- justing. Every working establishment needs people who will lead and guide the other members. Drury is fortunate to have ad- ministrators , guidance counselors , and teachers who care about their students. With the help of a dedicated staff, Drury students have the opportunity to become well-rounded individuals. Students search for values and knowledge through their teachers. They strive for recognition in academics, sports, and extra- curricular activities that help them on their way to becoming adults. They know at Drury that they will find friends and counselors who will share the joy of their successes and the tears of their failures that help them to deal with the present and the future. For the most part sports are an outstanding part of any school year. Through the team ac- complishments, there has been a revival of school spirit and pride. Drury captured the Western Massachusetts Championships in football and boys' and girls' basketball, and a second place ranking in wrestling. The credit goes not only to the fine athletes, characterized by the numerous county and Western Massachusetts All-Stars, but also to the fine coaching staffs. The in- dividuals, coaches and teams have all contributed in making Drury a pride to the community.
