What is Homecoming? Here at Drury it is a cele- bration to welcome bacl-r Drury al umnifal umnae. It is a week-long series of competitive events begin- ning with the semi-formal dance and ending with the fBig Game' where archrivals, Drury and Hoosac Valley, go at it on the gridiron. This year the semi-formal dance was held on Oc- tober 26, in the Drury gym. The theme of the dance was 'Stairway to Heaven and the gym was decorat- ed with glorious stars and moons. The queen picked this year was Carla Puccio and her court consisted of Maureen Taylor, Missy Boyer, Liz Delisle, and Tracy Hancoclr. Monday and Tuesday were Color Days. On Mon- day, freshmen wore brown and sophomores wore green. On Tuesday, juniors wore red and seniors wore blue. The winners were the seniors. Wednesday was Greaser Day and Soclr Day. Sen- iors won Greaser Day and lost Soclf Day to the ju- niors. Thursday, we observed Hush Day and played the Powder Puff Football Game. The rules for Hush Day were complicated. The girls could not tall: with the guys and visa versa. Plus, we were not allowed to speak to anyone outside our own grade level. Even- tually, the sophomores proved to be the most quiet and the senior girls won the Powder Puff Football Game that was held that night at Noel Field. On Friday, the Pep Rally was held in the gym and Friday night we staged the Snake Dance down Main Street, the burning of the dummy at Noel Field, and the Blue! White Dance baclr at the gym. Incidentally, when the results of the events were announced, naturally, the seniors had won! fa - f ,, V, ,, 1 A , ,. 119, ' X' 'wp Rem,-fy k I Ji' if f' 5 I' V f , if 5 W W 4 ,, ff! Musical selections from The Wiz filled the auditorium as students from the girls' ensemble, girls' chorus and choir sang up a storm! The concert was a success, for its pro- ceeds provided the funding of three schol- arships which were awarded to graduat- ing seniors to aid them in their pursuit of refining their entertaining abilities. The three Worthy recipients were Laurie De- lisle, Cathy Sacco and Patty Lord. While first being greet- ed by Hi y'all from Central High students, southern hospitality was extended to include a fish fry and a traditional southern fried chicken feast. During the visit students toured the University of Alabama campus, home of Bear Bryant and alma mater of Joe Na- math. Also on the list of sites were visits to ante-bellum mansions and Tannehill, the first iron furnace in Alabama. Drury students will fondly remember the warm sun and blooming azaleas of the south just as Central students will remember the sub-zero tempera- tures and snow of their January visit to New England. . sg ggi xaf 5. . ., ,., , iq., , 343534 HK Qfi tif, .:,. , g jim ,gawjcg 4 vi-'V - f...:1f'5ff'f, , fic ' 5'w?igV11:,1..: . fag' . KA TELEY DRURY The members of the Jim Kateley Scholarship Memorial Fund are: Advisor: Miss Sacco, Kim Gregalis, Tammy Hurlbut, Jane Earl, Colleen Haskins, Robin Cramer, Maggie Milanesi, Jackie Tilton, Don Wright, Doug Wright, Mark Wilk, John Therrien, Paul Gaudreau, Terry Tassone, Don Delnegro, Glen Lesure, and Mark Frances- chetti. When I think of James Kateley, I think of all the things we did to- gether and the part which those things played in our lives as we grew up together. He knew how to make the most out of a bad situa- tion and was great to have around during times of trouble and need. We shared our successes as well as our failures. This was the way Jim- my lived his life and this was the way he played his sports. He got along with everyone and really knew how to enjoy life. Jimmy was an athlete of extraor- dinary ability, but he never fell back on the glory of past accom- plishments. He was always trying to improve himself and his team. A hundred percent was never enough for him, and he admired all those who played this way. As a leader, Jimmy offered his help both on and off the field. He never let a bad day affect his life. Jim truly set an example to fellow classmates. Be- ca use we were born just two weeks apart and lived right down the street from each other, Iknew Jim- my well. Together we enjoyed the care free years of our youth and I will always cherish the memory of those times. Steve Rose Class of 80 EEL QUT TY I I 'T 2 E X i Q' , ' 1 W1 A 1 ' ' ' 4 as I . Classified as underdogs in our division we proved to have what it takes to be champions. We were led by seven seniors, two of whom were co-captains of the team - Tom Bona and Tim Cota. Their will to win held us together throughout the year. Also, new Coach, Don Po- meroy, gave us excellent leadership, successful game plans and the con- ditioning we needed to win. The team 's league record was l 0- 4 -Z. This was the first Drury Hock- ey Team to win the Division Z Berkshire Title and go to the West- ern Mass. Finals. We were runners- up to Pittsfield for the Berkshire County Title losing a tough 3-2 game to them. Our final efforts proved to be our best when we played Taconic in the Western Mass. Quarter Finals. Those who attended saw a team with limited ability and a lot of teamwork play one of the best hockey games the Hennessey League has ever seen. al- though we lost 5-4 in double over- time we knew we had played our best and skated off proudly. Drury had one of the best jumping teams in the county, and an average cross country team, but they didn't get a chance to show their stuff because there wasn 't any snow. The alpine team, howev- er, did get a chance to ski thanks to the manmade snow at Jiminy Peak. The alpine team 's record was 9-11. Dnumr nnumr Dnumr nnumr nnumr 10 1 I 12 13 9 4... Co-captains Neil Guer- ino and Mike Corbosiero agree the highlight of this season was the team taking a second place in the County Christmas Tournament - the best showing Drury has ever had. First place finishers in that tournament were Neil Guerino H282, Jeff May I1472, and Randy Reinsfordg taking a second was Wally Lesure I1 342, and third were Lance Luczynski 11212 and Mike Corbosiero 11142. The team 's sea- son looked quite promising until a few minor injuries kept some of the team 's members from starting. By the time the Western Mass.
