PATRICIA DEVANNEY IPATI l MARY THERESA DEMASI IMARJ Be like a duck, calm on the outside and paddling like mad underneath. STEVE DELNEGRO IDELI What do you do when there s nowhere to go? In North Adams there are only three and a half places to go Mac s lif you re with the ock crowdi Colonial Inf you want to escape that groupl the laymar for those 18 or old enough to pass for 183 and The Cutoff better known as the summer partying place The most popular place for upperclassmen seems to be MacDon ald s Its centrally located and its fun The atmosphere is mostly rowdy but it has been known to settle into saturation point bore dom on occasion too Prime time there is Saturday between 7 30 and 10 30 Then eople crowd the parking lot and lean around against every availab e surface Althou h Macs is a potential trouble spot so far everyone has and Fzirivers who dgnt Fpaypattention no one has beer? serigusly injured Most students agree that the management and police have both been pretty understandin They do their ob and they on t act superior to us they re really ver friendly sal one Macs regular T e biggest problem say the girls is parents who feel that the Union Street food factor is not a group meeting place but a pick u station This attitude ma es it tough to escape from the house Al things considered though Mac s is still the best place to find any kid you re looking for on a Saturday night The regulars at Colonial Pizza on the corner of Main Street and Ea le Street say their spot is the best place to relax without hassle to tal to your friends and sta out of the cold at the same time While soaking in the smel s of sausage and pepperoni and trying to escape the manager s glare most students get some free entertain ment as well For those whose social life is not fulfilled at either of the downtown establishments there s the Mar On a Saturday night the room is packed with loud conversation and music Booths are ammed to capacity the air is smokey and the room is dim The col ege crowd elbows you out whenever possible But even with all these flaws say seniors who head for the Mar whenever they can it s a great place In the summer when none of these places seems right and ever one wants to et away from North Adams cars head for The Cutof with planty o liquid refreshment. Located on the road leading to Mount Greylock, is a place sur- rounded with trees and ferns, a thickly wooded area far enough off the road to discourage police from patroling it. The atmosphere, said one senior, is fantastic, more rowdy than the ni ht be ore the Hoosac Valley game. Norgh Adams is small and there isn't much to do, complain stu- dents. Still, the seniors who spend time at these places say they're making the best of what they ve got. Why bother? Why not? they ask. I ' I , 1 - 1 - 2 I l .
