Marching, and Stage Bands. In addition to the usual football games, Fall Foliage Parade, and Memorial Day Parade, the marching band was engulfed in a downpour of rain in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Holyoke and lost their busses in Albany after march- ing inthe America Parade there. Most members seemingly enjoyed getting soaking wet and arriving home at 3:00 a.m. after locating our busses. ln addition to the Chirstmas and Spring Concerts at Drury, the Concert and Stage Bands set a new precedent this year by making a 33 Vi stereophonic record that highlighted the school year in sound. Also, both groups participated in an exchange program with the Fairport fN.Y.J Central High School Band. This year. the concert band was delighted to break the record for the number of times they had to play Pomp and Circumstanceh with the senior class at gradu- ation rehearsals. Last year's record was 65-at this writing, after only 3 out of 5 re- hearsals, the band was already played this thrilling musical composition 72 times. Will the new record be over 100? The stage band went on a concert tour consisting of Western New England Col- lege in Springfield, Berkshire School in Sheffield, the North Adams Middle School and Drury High School. ln the spirit of the year, the band picnic was held at Fish Pond-in the rain-but everyone had a great time yelling at Mel, the umpire, and each other in the annual wiffle ball game. All in all, it was a very memorable year. The band is proud of its representatives to the Western District Festivals: Matt Bateman, Iohn Spofford, Chris Mezzanote. Diane Chicoine, Kim Barone, Linda Neal, and Dick Foote. I oAnn Simonelli PETER DENNIS ........................... Scott Lincoln E . Mame , the first Drury High musical in the past three years, was presented in our school's audito- rium on March 25, 26, and 27. Under the talented di- rection of Miss Kucher and her assistant Mrs. Capr- oni, the show was put together with less than three months of after-school rehearsals. However, many of the cast members risked flunking out of school andfor being fired from their jobs during the last week in March at the climax of this fun-filled production. Barbara Duby appeared in the title role as Mame Dennis, that wacky non-conformist who could charm the husk right off of the corn . Other princi- pals included Lisa Dickinson as Vera Charles, Alan Ziter as Dwight Babcock, Chris Laird, Ioe Pate- naude, Larry Lesage, Brian Lemere, Iohn Spofford. and Bernie Flaherty, who played Patrick Dennis. Mame's ten year old nephew. Bernie truly captured the hearts of the cast as well as the enthusiastic audience. Praises go to the fine pit band directed by Mr. Vi- vona, who did not drown out the performers on stage. For this. Mr. Vivona, we thank you! And we also recall the good job done by the fleet-footed stage crew headed by Mr. VVellspring, as well as the crazy choreography by Sally Belding. Who will ever forget the late rising of the shaky moon over the moon ladies? And although everyone knows that Mame's friends are supposed to be strange. did you ever before hear of an orange bunny and a bumblebee appearing at a cocktail party? Not to mention the touching moment when the new Mrs Gooch walked on stage. or the lov- ing relationship between Bosom Buddies Mame and Vera. The 1976 production of Mame left us many fond memories as well asa fine standard for future DHS musicals to live up to. 127 DRURY EXCHANGE CLUB new i 584.8521 ...A--- -.Adi L. Trotlinr. B. Lord, I.
