TLIDENT COUNCIL The Drury High School Student Council plays an important role in representing the student body and providing entertaining social functions outside of individual class activities and sports. They voice the sentiment and opinions of the student body and promote the general welfare of the school. The annual Field Day event is a project of the Student Council. This year it was held on September 14, 1966. and in spite of the rain. the day was quite suc- cessful. The feature race for this year's field day was the orange race. This proved to be quite fun and brought out a laugh from everyone. The competition was keen but the Sophomores and Juniors edged out the Seniors and Freshmen by a very close score. The weekend of February 10, ll. and 12. l967. the Council sponsored the sec- ond Winter Carnival Weekend. The lively Drury-St. Joseph game was Friday night followed by a victory dance at the Drury gym. The highlight of the weekend was the Winter Carnival Ball, which took place Saturday. February ll. 1967 at Greylock School. The theme was Be My Valentine. Other events were ski com- petitions and snow sculptures. The Student Council provides our student body with the social as well as scho- lastic, enthusiasm that we desire. 66 Student Council's annual Field Day competition included the girls' Tug-of- War, with the Seniors and Freshmen battling against the Sophomores and Ju- niors. SENIOR CLASS PLAY On April 6 and 8, the Senior Class of Drury High School presented The Mouse that Roaredw. a satire on American politics. It tells the story of a small. insig- nificant country, the Duchy of Grand Fenwick. which wages war on the United States, when her chief livelihood. a specially fermented wine. Pinat Grand Fen- wick, was produced under a different name at a cheaper price in America. When by a ridiculous fluke. the Duchy comes into possession ofthe powerful Q-bomb from the U.S., national interest is suddenly switched to the remote little country. It was altogether a wonderful play. and the actors and directors did a tremen- dous job in making it a terrific success! +-if Crew: ls! row: K. Toohey. P. Gagne. D. Bushika. L. Form ii Y hals, T. Well let me tell you, you tight-listed old skinflint, if you had let us have some money for playgrounds, your blasted window would have never been broken. Junior Class Play On December 14 and 15, 1966, the Junior Class presented Clementine, a comedy in three acts. Clementine Kelly, a sixteen year old tom- boy whose major interest appears to be football, begins to learn about the normal interest of teen- age girls: boys! Because of her previous attitude toward the opposite sex she finds it hard to con- vince Hank that she is interested in more than just knocking him down. After turning her atten- tions from football to public speaking she learns that the way to get to a boy is not to overpower him, but to let him overpower her. This delight- ful comedy, sprinkled with the problems of Mr. Kelly,s re-election to Mayor, Miss Pringle's bro- ken window, Jane Ann's gossip, and Cathy's power of enticement over all the boys, even Hank, ends happily with Clementine winning Hank. All members of the Varsity Club hold a letter from some sport at Drury. In November of 1966, the Varsity Club sponsored a raffle. Drawings were held and winners were provided with free tickets to the Adams football game. The club also held several dances throughout the year. The boys in the Varsity Club show a great deal of school spirit. They provide amusing skits which are held at pep-rallies and are a great help to the cheerleaders in encouraging the student body to show more spirit. THE ACADEME Row 1. R. Richton, A. Through their work as a club, they have guest speakers, visit places of interest, learn more about the teaching profession, and at the end of the year, go to different schools and observe the way classes are taught. F.T.A. provides its members with the insights of the teaching profession and helps them to decide if teaching is the career for them. It also gives the students a chance in leadership by making them lead their own meetings and plan their own affairs. Highlights of the 1966-67 F.T.A. were a trip to the Clark School for the Deaf and the selling of sharp-looking Drury crew shirts. 79 NU SIGMA EPSILON I967 . ,eel .,x lf'g,fll yt L Nu Sigma Epsilon is the honor society for all Juniors who have obtained an eighty-five percent average or better for their first two years of high school.
