Message From Principal As you near the time of severance from your high school associations the follow- ing thoughts are worthy of your considera- tion: On occasion, involutional thoughts will flood your mind. They will remind you of the manner in which you conducted your high school days. They will remind you as to whether or not you developed as to your capacity. Whatever you realize, that fact is inescapable. It will determine the nature of your future path. It will determine whether you are to continue in the same progressive vein or, Whether you will have to detour to recoup what was lost through your indolence and improper attitude. Your niche in life will be affected by your direction. Individual initiative is being challenged daily due to increasing encroachment on the lives of people by governmental and other agencies. More than ever great strength of character is needed by individuals to keep sacrificing time and effort in Work, while they see many others securing material benefits equal to or better than theirs with little or no effort. Individual initiative caused the expansion and develop- ment of our excellent country. It must be predominant if its continuanceis to he maintained. The most vital source of such individuals must come from students of your age. It must come through realization, appreciation, and dedication. A dwindling source will leave us, in time, a nation of complacent and shallow-thinking people. Such a nation is very vulnerable to the greed, ambition, and immorality of envious nations. It is with sincere pleasure that best wishes are extended to each member of the Class of 1960. Being personally affected, the wishes assume a greater magnitude. Stephen J. Drotter Principal of Drury High School

Message From H., upermtendent of ohools ,,,,,,f' I Congratulations to the Class of 1960. Your education, both past and future, has been and is continually being aimed at helping you reach your highest self-realization and at the same time we hope you have developed a concern for the welfare of man. President Eisenhower defines the first goal of education, 'cto prepare the student for effective personal and social life in a free society. We have tried to make this the major aim of your education in the North Adams Public Schools. Your ultimate success in attaining the above worth while goal depends a great deal on how well you have mastered the fundamental skills of reading, writing, and arithmeticg how well you meet your responsibilities in your home and community, and how successful you have been in acquiring emotional stability and social adjust- ment. From this day, on your continuing growth and progress will depend, to a great extent, on your own interpretation of self-responsibility and concern for the welfare of man. You have had a good start under the guidance of trained teachers and administrators. It is up to you. May success be your good fortune the rest of your lives. Sincerely yours, Robert N. Taylor Superintendent of Schools
