The insatiable mind of man has brought about another 1 new chapter in the history of civilization. Missiles which heretofore existed on paper are now encircling the earth and at the same time emitting valuable information. Over the years man has constantly striven to learn the mysteries of the universe. He was happy to uncover new knowledge and relate it to his fellowmen. During the re- MR- STEPHEN J. DROTTER. cent years man has had to add another motive to his quest, that of military implication. The last several decades have shown that the attitude of people the world over has changed. lt is the largest single factor which has brought about the use of scientific knowledge and progress for military implication rather than for man's betterment alone. The thought for you in this message is that you use the knowledge, the ideals, the habits imparted to you during your Drury days as intended. They were intended for you to continue your betterment, but they were also intended for you to have the proper attitude toward your fellowmen, your locality, your state, your country and the world. Being only concerned for oneis Wel- fare is the basic reason for the changed attitude throughout the world. There must be another concern, con- cern for the rights of others, if the desired balance is to be had. lt must start with each of you as individuals and spread far and wide. It is only in this way that civilization can look forward with any feeling of security. As you take your place in the world, think seriously of this aspect, then do something about it. Best wishes to each and every member of the Class of l959. STEPHEN J. DROTTER. . 0 ' 9 W JW I' fa. 5 f I M52 Z i' QV Q 45? XX i 7

Message from Miss Katherine Cody, Director of Guidance. f - I -xxx, ifffrilf 4.3 You are entering a world of wondrous things. So short a time it has been since man hung his first exhibit in the heavens! Today, 'aiming at the moon, is no mere figure of speech. It is into this same space that you are about to launch your own personal satellite. How well the count- down goes, how successfully you go into orbit depends largely upon what you have been doing these last four years as you trod the halls of Drury. Let us trust the years have been good ones - good for you, good to you. May you carry away with you a bit of philosophy, too- Remember your American heritage beyond the history classroom. Save it. Cherish it. Enrich it. Seize your opportunities, your challenges. Never sit back and believe your learning has ended nor your work is done. Know and practice the values for which the truly edu- cated man continually strives - the moral and spiritual values which bind him to his Maker with courage, vision and hope. Sincerely yours, KATHERINE F. CODY MISS KATHERINE CODY 3'1-
