Snappy has never been known to hurry, but with his keen wit and intelligence we're sure he'll get to the top. ' MARY ANDOGNINI Minstrels 1 All ears are strained in third period history-all eyes are focused on the corner seat. Mary's soft, sweet voice is scarcely audible, but, as she sits down, she flashes a charming, shy smile in the direction of the class in general. All's forgiven. Who could resist her gentle, ladylike demureness? Mary's many friends of thirty-six wish her good luck in her future career. HARLEY EDWARD ANDREW Baseball 2 Prom Committee 3 Harley is one of our easy-going, amiable fellows. His interests are concentrated principally about baseball and girls. However, this does not mean that he neglects his studies, for he takes his school work seriously, and is constantly passing with good grades. Harley expects to take up Journalism next year, and we're sure he'll be successful. BENJAMIN APKIN KKBenY7 Ben should be political adviser to the president, for his theories concerning politics are truly worth heeding. An avid reader of newspapers, he is ever ready to discuss the latest issues of the day. Ben's plans for next year are indefinite, but we know he will be successful in whatever he undertakes. However, he spends a great deal of his time escorting a certain senior girl here and there. WALTER BRUCE BALLOU Klwaltif This quiet, studious fellow has not participated in many of Drury's activities, but he certainly has endeavor- ed to keep up the Alma Mater's scholastic standing. Although Walt keeps pretty much to himself, when he does come out of his shell, he startles everyone with his friendly, personable character. His decisiveness and determination should enable him to be a success in whatever field he chooses to enter. BERYL HAZEL BARTON Minstrels 2 Prom Committee 3 Nu Sigma Pro Merito French Club 3 Academe Staff 4 Class Book Stafi' 4 Beryl has received her reward for her diligent study by being one of the most brilliant students in the Senior class. She has a natural musical ability, and we know that no matter what course she may choose to follow in the future, her quiet, unassuming personality will gain her many friends. THOMAS BEALL KIT0m!! Choir 3, 4 Academe Staff 4 Prom Committee 3 Faust 3 Tom has been the 'fScotch influence on our class of '36, However, not in a frugal sense of the word. His deep voice, with a pleasing Scottish accent, and his gentlemanly, quiet manner have made him a friendly asset to Drury during the past four years. His keen interest in athletics has won for him a place in Inter- scholastic and Church League basketball, and, lastly, the honor of being chosen the Sports Editor of the Academe. We hope, Tom, good luck may follow you as your shadow, wherever you may go. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisiiiiiii 22222822882fiifiiffffiiifi Siiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit H E 2422222222222288222282222 DORIS CHRISTINE BINGHAM , Derry Dodie 3 Minstrels 2 Basketball 3, 4 f Class Book Typist 4 Doris is a girl who takes life as a joke. If a giggle was heard during an explanation of the requirements of a good filing system, that was Dorry . Her con- tagious laughter and sunny smile have penetrated the hearts of many at Drury. CHARLES E. BOISVERT Fat Charlie Basketball 2, 3, 4, Capt. 4 Football 2, 3, 4 Asst. Manager Baseball 3 Track 2 Manager of Baseball 4 Student Council 4 Traffic Corps 3, 4 Chief of Traffic Corps 4 Prom Committee 3 Charlie has been one of Drury's outstanding athletes, excelling in basketball and football. He's an able track man and deserves credit for his remarkable swim- ming ability. Charlie likewise possesses a pleasing and witty personality, which has created for him a throng of friends. A boy with these splendid traits will surely make a success of anything he undertakes. CHARLES FRANCIS BOURDON Service Corps 4 Prom Committee 4 Charlie is yet another of the quiet members of our class. However, he possesses an additional, valuable characteristic-patience. We hear that he uses it to good advantage when fishing. This past year he has been a helpful member of the Service Corps. Good luck, Charlie. ROSE AGNES BRODERICK Minstrels 1 Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4 Academe Typist Poetry and basketball are an unusal combination, but they are what chiefly interest Rose. She has shown herself to be a fair and enthusiastic sportswoman on the gym fioor. This fair miss has a sweet sentimentality, and delights in the works of famous poets. 3333333333SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 11 8282828228QQQQQQQQQQQW 33333333333333333333338333 H 5 82??????8?????????????2??? l ! i GERALD LOUIS BROTHERS X Kltjerrylf ' Choir 4 Martha 4 Gerald is the fellow who usually comes panting into Study C about 8.02 in the morning. He evidently believes in the old saying, Better late than never. Quiet, retiring, and modest, he has never taken an active part in school affairs, but he is very popular with the few who have had the privilege of knowing im. HELEN ELIZABETH BROWN Brownie Her air is so modest, her aspect so meek, So szmple, yet so sweei, are her charms. Helen hopes someday to become a teacher. Her quiet manners and friendly, sweet ways will surely help her to be a success in this work. These qualities account for her host of friends. NELLIE ELIZABETH BROWN Minstrels 2, 3 Prom Committee 3 Nellie is shy and quite reserved, but she has a nice personality and is always congenial with everyone. Although she hasn't taken an active part in school affairs, she has made a host of friends among her own I set. Nellie's smile will be a pleasant memory to all her admirers. WILLIAM CLEVELAND BRUNDIGE KfBillYl Band 1, 2, 3, 4 Prom Committee 4 Bill is one of those happy-go-lucky individuals. He has few worries and always manages to have a good time. Evidently, playing the trumpet is one of his favorite pastimes, for is he not a loyal supporter of the Drury Band? By his quiet, unassuming way, he has left his imprint upon our class. How- ever, he seems indifferent to these palpitations, and pursues his way serenely and nonchalantly. He's planning to attend Albany Business School next year, where we are sure he'll meet with success. BERNARD JOSEPH CALVI Berno Cal Baseball 3, 4 Football 4 Prom Committee 3 Cal is always willing to do whatever is asked of him. He enters into everything whole-heartedly, and never fails to have a good time. This year he has become quite a football hero. Remember the Adams- Drury game, Berno? This good-natured and friendly boy, who possesses an abundance of school spirit, is one of the most likeable members of his class. ROSE CAROL CANTONE A:T0nyyv Minstrels 1 Prom Committee 3 Academe Typist 4 Rose is the sophisticated lady of the commercial department. Her refinement and taste in fashion are admired by all her acquaintances. She is very adept in the art of writing poetry, as almost any Academe will illustrate. She will, we are sure, through her charm, become a leader among women. BURTON UDELL CARR Prom Committee 3 One may always hear Burton's interested Voice, extending his ideas and theories, in a discussion of any kind. Recently, he has entered that realm of much- honored dancers and we hear he is pretty good. Burton, may your success be much better than pretty good in the future. 3333333333333iiiiiifsiiiiii 13 22222222222222222222288222 SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS333333 H l 888222Wrftfffrffrfrlffff IDA MAE CARSON fxcorkysr Prop Committee 4 Faust Prom Committee 4 'fMartha,' Choir 3, 4 Frankness, sincerity, and goodness are the out- standing characteristics of this Briggsville lass, who has proven herself to be a fine and loyal friend to many. We feel secure in predicting her future success as a first-rate veterinarian. u ALICE MARGARET CATTANEO NAV! BLANCHE MADELIENE CELLANA nJe,wy9x Basketball 1 Soccer 4 Service Corps 4 Although she's always a good student in class, Blanche very often is the center of fun and activity in the cor- ridors. Her pleasing disposition and good-natured giggle have won her many friends who wish her success in any career she may choose to follow, RUSSELL JOHN CHENAIL Russ Prom Committee 3, 4 Hollywood with its Fred Astaire has nothing on Drury, for we have Russ He surprised us all by coming to the dances last year, and he has since accredited himself nobly in this pastime. If there is a dance anywhere in the city you will surely find Russ in attendance. Although he is forced to commute daily each morn- ing from Monroe Bridge, this early matutinal rising does not disturb his bland, serene personality. He spends most of his spare time in the neighborhood of the ticket office of Loew's Richmond Theatre. We wonder what the attraction is? BARBARA ELSIE CROFTS KKBarb!I Minstrels 1 Basketball 3, 4 Prom Committee 3 Class Book Staff Barb, tall and attractive, is an eflicient business girl. However, all her time is not spent in commercial study. She has many outside interests, eh, Barb ? She is, indeed, a true friend and one that will always remain loyal and steadfast. CHARLES BERNARD DAUNAIS Charlie Don't let this young man fool you, for although he may appear to be verging on the soporific state, he is ever on the alert. And, hush, Charlie is one of Drury's most proficient practical jokers. PHILIP DAVIS Hphiln c1Flop!r Prom Committee 3 Some think Phil is quiet but those who really know him have found him just the opposite. During the four years Phil has been with us he has earned our ad- miration and respect for his loyalty and honesty. The class of '36 wishes you the best of luck, Phil. Her curly black locks have been the subject of much comment and the envy of the many girls who are forced to make frequent trips to the beauty shops. We are confident that Marion will win a profitable position as some prominent executive's secretary. WILLIAM KENNETH DEMPSEY IlBillYl Student Council 1 Prom Committee 3 Assistant Manager of Football 2 Bill is one of those boys who does not believe in business before pleasure. He can appreciate a good joke and is always ready with a wise crack. There is little doubt about the rumor that Bill owns a brick at Anes's as he can usually be found there with one of his pals. BERNARD LEWIS DENNIS ccwimpyvv Wimpy is one of the quietest boys in the senior class. He never speaks unless spoken to, but still water runs deep. Refreshing eagerness, simplicity and frankness are all traits of Mae, Always willing to help, with kindness Written on every feature, she has an enviable character. Her brisk efficiency and aptitude in secretarial work should be the basis of her instantaneous success in the World. DAVID EUGENE FINNEY Dave Although Dave is another of Drury's shy, quiet students, he will leave his mark upon the school's history. He has recently been discovered as the Hercules of our Alma Mater. He is one of the few boys in the commercial section, and we're sure he will go far in the business field. CARLTON LOUIS TYLER Carr, Prom Committee 3, 4 Faust Track 3 Martha Pirates of Penzance Carlton possesses a good baritone voice and has taken part in most of the musical performances given during his attendance at Drury. Wait a minute, I have my class book here, somewhere. I'll go get it. It's such fun recalling incidents of those remarkable four years. Ah, here it is. Look at the pictures! Don't they look queer? Here's mine. Read that write up! Let's see e oh, do you remember our basketball team in our freshman year, the team that had the play-061 in the Lasell Gym in Williamstown? Oh, here's the history. Listen, I'll read it, and then we can talk it over later. To go back ten years. In September of 1932, we shakily and nervously entered into our high school career. The first few weeks we spent in getting acquainted with build- ing, teachers, and students. As we walked through the corridors how in- significant we felt with the upper classmen looking down at us! Again and iiiiili'iii'iiii'S'ilri'i3lililiiSitS 2533222882853iliiliililililililiti S33333336533333333333333333 H H fiffflffflfffffff222222228 again we went up the wrong stairs, entered the wrong class rooms, and found ourselves extremely embarrassed by our verdancy and our youthfulness. Unity of our freshman class began when we elected our class officers: President, Billy Roberts, Vice President, Nan Purtellg Secretary-Treasurer, Billy Douglas. After a vacation which seemed much too short, we came back to Drury, not as freshmen but as full-fledged sophomores. Playing this new role, we had the pleasure of looking down on the incoming class, who seemed more timid and frightened than we had been. For our officers We chose: President, Harry Messier, Vice President, Annette Gangemig Secretary-Treasurer, Ray Gaudette. Our junior year came all too soon. We started off by electing our class officers. President, Guy Franceschinig Vice President, Jane Livermore, Secretary-Treasurer, Dick Trottier. Bearing the title Junior we took on new responsibilities. We undertook the annual Junior Prom, which was a gala affair, due to the guidance of our class adviser, Miss Sherman. In this year especially, our class con- tributed many husky athletes to the baseball, football, basketball and track teams. The fall of 1935 found us taking our assembly seats in the front rows of the auditorium. Our social and dramatic activities for the year included the Senior Prom, which was one of the social highlights of the season, the opera Martha directed by Mr. Chambers, which aroused very favorable comment through- out the city, the class play, Wedding Bells which was performed so capably by members of our senior class, and finally the magnificent Senior Cabaret - the biggest social and financial success of years. For the first time in many years a class was permitted to graduate in caps and gowns, the girls in white and boys in navy blue. This scene on the stage was extremely impressive. Another item of interest in our senior year was class night, held on the terrace. The class song was sung, and the class will, prophecy and history were read. Our last year was successfully passed under the leadership of those same class officers who had so ably served us the year before. Betty: I'll say that does bring back memories. Remember how proud and fortunate we felt having caps and gowns and class night! We were the first class to have all those privileges, weren't we? M arcia: Yes we were, and - But we could go on forever recalling this and that, but time is short, so .... Marcia Hunter is the lucky second, but Reggie does not love her, he only hopes she will be a means of his forgetting his first wife and only love, Rosalie Carter. His first marriage was a rather rushed affair as a result of a mishap to his shoes which had been left outside his door to be shined, but which Pinkie had decided to dine upon. Pinkie was Rosalie's dogg she too was staying in Santa Barbara at the same hotel. Shortly after this accidental meeting the two were married. However before they left Santa Barbara a quarrel all over red hair separated the two. After a subsequent divorce the couple saw no more of each other. Rosalie, reading of Reggie's impending marriage in a foreign newspaper, travels all the way from Europe to see him. She makes a surprise visit on her ex-husband with whom she again becomes very friendly. As a result Reggie invites her to dinner that night. Reggie, it happens, is to attend a bachelor dinner that evening in his honor, but he manages to get out of it by pretending to be sick. Marcia hears of his illness and comes over to inquire about his health and then finds out the truth. Action follows which results in the breaking of Marcia's engagement and the realization that the divorce was a mistake.
