This year, Glendola Barnes was elected editor of the yearbook and Peggy Cox co-editor. Editing the Gusher is a job that lasts throughout the school year. Not only is the planning of the book undertaken but the financing involves hard work by everyone on the Gusher Staff. When school starts, the yearbook personnel go to work. Yearbook planning, operating the concession stand at the football field, selling advertising to the businessmen, selling subscriptions, the taking of pictures, publishing the weekly Teen-News, selling popcorn at the basketbaIl'games are only a few of the many ac- tivities undertaken by the Gusher Staff in presenting the yearbook to you. Our desire is to give you a book that you will like and one you can compare with other school yearbooks and say with sincerity ours is the best! Sponsor of this year's Gusher is Mr. R, M. Schenandoah. Perhaps in the minds of a few, the most important thought is how the game came out, in other words did we win? The Tornadoes won one game, tied another and lost the remaining eight of a ten game schedule, but that's not im- portant to a large number ot people who have stayed and cheered the team on. Those Drumright spectators who came out and yelled, saw in the coming and going of each game, the untiring de- sire to win and never give up, Not once did the Tornadoes give upl They continued to drive, block, tackle and show improvement in all respects at every succeeding game. lt was a long way to come with an inexperienced team and a new coach, but after untold hours on the practice field the team MIKE FLOYD LEROY RAINEY BOB LOKEY STEVE MOODY Center Guard Guard Quarterback l Year 2 Years l Year l Year JERRY RICKNER DAVID LONG JON SELLERS DOYLE I-IOLEMAN Guard Fullback Halfback Halfback I Year I Year I Year I YEOI' started to improve Now that the seasonlis over there is o feeling among those who did not ridicule the teom and its coaches that something positive has been gained this year, a feeling that is won- derful to have. The Tornadoes, despite their won-lost record, created more excitement at the end of the season than at its beginning. They continued to show improvement and desire. lf this is a result of one year's hard work, what will it be like next year? Mony feel Drumright will start to eject from its weak sister position that it's been in for a number of years and make their opponents stand up and pay attention to Drumright's fortunes. Our hats off and a pat on the back to the coaches and members of the I958 Tornado football teom for the wonderful showing they made this year, We're proud of youl ORVILLE MILLS JOHNNY CRANE ALTON BATEMAN DANNY LEAR End Tackle Holfback End I Year I Year I Year I Year .f-JC- aa, habla Members of the Junuar Hugh football team are Furst Raw left to rnght Tommy Wuse Charles Grusham Tracy Venable Danny Moore Rnchard Wuse Dennvs Kldder and Leland Bear Second Row Charles Barnhart Mrckey Hackett Jan Barnes Paul Salsba Jerry West and Bobby Trunk Thurd Raw Bully Archer John Marx Loran Mllls Dannle Cornman George Wright John Ishmael Larry Wnlborn and Tommy Cruzan UNKHlIHGHQFOOTBALLfHLMW OPPONENT Perkms Wewaka Pawnee Cleveland Brlstow Hammy Sand Sprmgs CURE TH EY The Junuor Hugh football team showed thear opponents a lot af desnre thus year Freshmen players should be a lot af help to the Varsuty team next year as a lat of patentnal greatness was dlsplayed Coach of the Junnar Hugh foot ball team thus year was Mr R M Schenan doah hrs furst year ln caachmg football l , -l we - ' ' 4 . 30 0 - ' A o 64 , l2 42 , I2 34 l . t ' 7 24 - - ' o 44 , ' , . . . - ' 32 , - - - - , Q rv- --xr .11 .. :-1 f ' J, .'Q . ,Lv .. Pawnee lost to Drumright, 115-43. How well a team performs depends on how well they are trained and how much desire they have to win, especially when the team, as a whole, is short on stature, The Drumright Tor- nado's basketball squad played well against overwhelming odds to compile an enviable 262, won-loss, record for the l959 basket- ball season. The Tornadoes beat every team they played during the season. Perhaps the high point of the season was when Still- water, the team sportswriters predicted would be undefeated this year, went down to defeat at the hands of the Tornadoes. Even with Stillwater's mammoth center in the game they had their dreams of being unde- feated for the season, shattered.
