'4DMlNlS7Rv47l0N Again we have reached the time of year when we can open the pages of the new Gusher and re- view the happenings and accomplishments of the past school year. It has been an eventful yearg one in which we experienced sorrow and joy, success and disappointment. But of such is life made, and by such are we conditioned for that which lies ahead. Congratulations and best wishes to each mem- ber of the Class of 1949. May your experiences in the public schools of Drumright serve you well in your efforts to achieve a life filled with satisfaction, success. and happiness. -A. C. WIEMER As we review the '49 Gusher, we are reminded of the many school activities that have added to the enrichment of this school year. Great achieve- ment has always received its reward from the giving of one-'s best to it. The principals office rejoices with you in the completion of a successful school year. We trust that the honor of our heritage has been upheld and that you will forever rejoice in the memory of its contribution. -DARWIN KIRKMAN The Student Council is the governing body of the Drumright Student Association. It is organized by the faculty and students to create better school spirit and to improve the school in all respects. The purpose of the Council is to promote a closer understanding among the administration. faculty, and stu- dents. The opinions of the students are expressed through representatives at each meeting. .4 fi 1 -sf U,-5 .3-4,1 f 4. as.,-. After many hard practices, Coach Butcher and line coach, Ross Duckett, had the team running a new for- mation which they hoped would prove very successful in the coming season. The Tornadoes, wearing their new uniforms for the first time, opened the season with a conference game against the Perry Maroons. It was a thrilling game that ended with the score tied 6 to 6. The second game pitted the Tornadoes against the Yale Bulldogs. The strong Tornado team romped on the incompetent Bulldogs to the tune of 24 to O. With renewed vigor, the team came back the next week to beat Guthrie 19 to 0 on their home field, thus breaking a jinx of long standing. A very small but dangerous team from Bristow in- vaded the Tornado field with high hopes of winning, but went home with a few bruises and a 19 to 13 defeat. The Tornadoes got off to a slow start, but put on the steam in the last half and rolled over the Oilton Panthers by the largest score of the season, 34 to 0. With carefree grade school days lingering as important mem- ories in their young lives, the freshman class entered upon new and exciting adventures at Drumright High School. As the year moved, along, new friends and activities caused the feeling of uncertainty to fade. A wonderful year unfolded before them, and they have become a class of which we all are proud.
