They were a little awed by the self-eont'ident upper classmen, but they quickly got over their self- consciousness and elected the first queen of the year from their own class-Ruth Anne Gerard-Hand Queen. Under the guidance and leadership of Mrs. Lou Ann Pinkston they soon lieeame an important part of our high school. As Sophomores the Class selected Miss Mildred Parker. Miss Vecile Flora and Mr. Paul Morris to guide them through the school year. They again elected the band queen-this time it was Anita White. Feel- ing very much at home in IJ. H. S., the class of '42 faced their Junior year with a desire to uphold the high standards they had set. This year the class had an enrollment of 1348 students. They chose Mr. Phillip Hohart as their spon- sor with Miss Frances Griseom and Miss Vecile Flora to assist him. They again elected the hand queen from the class of '42 '- - Bettye Geyer. Early in the school year under the direction of Miss Oneta Maxwell, the class produced the very successful Junior play-- Growing Pains. The pro- eeeds from this play went toward a bigger and lietter Junior-Senior lianquet. Their most reeent honor was the election of Anita White as 1'an'iiival Queen. Many and noteworthy have been the successes ot' this year's Junior elass and they look forwairml to their Senior year with a determination to Continue to luring honor to Druniright High School. The following ol't'ieers have guided the Junior Class through this period of their school life. ,-1.....225Jl8..lT-, 1939 FRESHMAN OFFIFERS President JIM RUSSELL Vice-President BONNIE FOSTER Secretary RUTH ANNE GERARIJ KATHRYN TURNER RUTH ANNE GERARIJ CHARLENE SCHOOLCRAFT 1940 SOPHOMORE OFFICERS President EVERETT STOFKMAN Vice-President ANITA WHITE Yell Leader Band Queen Carnival Queen Secretary Yell Leader Band Queen RVTH ANNE GERARIJ WILLARID STEELE ANITA WHITE 1941 JUNIOR OFFICERS President JIM Rl'SSEl.l, Vice-President ELLA HOSE BAIJGER Seeretary BETTYE GEYER Yi.I Leader Band Queen Carnival Queen WILLARID S'l'EELE BETTYE GEYER ANITA WHITE BEICNIVIC BICVK EDWIN .,XIN'Of'K .IIIANITA BICN'I'II.'XI.I. Al This year's council was organized early in September. lt consisted of thirteen members and a sponsor. Mr. Taylor, who was appointed by the administration. The council has been particularly interested in pro- jects that have endeavored to place administration and responsibility of student problems in the hands of student leaders. Immediately after its organization the council at- tempted to revitalize the pep assemblies. A skit or stunt was presented in each pep assembly program. Early in the school year the council inaugurated a flag ceremony for opening ceremonies in the morning. Immediately after the beginning of the first period. To the Colors is played and, as the student body stands at attention, the state and national flags are advanced while the students give the salute to the flag. This project has been entirely in the hands of student leaders. I it 'W Wr1itt l it The council feels that one of its most successful projects was the White Fhristmas program which was held for the first time in several years. The drive was made for both food and clothing. Each first hour class was given the opportunity to contribute to this project. Nineteen baskets of food were collected and given to the Ministerial Alliance for distribution. The council sponsored and organized a bicycle club among the high school boys. The purpose of this club was to eliminate the mass of bicycles on the front of the campus lawn, The new bicycle rack in the court east of the building is evidence of the success of this project. The year's outstanding project was the All School Varnival, which was held April 25th. The red. white. and blue decorations. new plan of organization, shoot- ing gallery, picture machine.
