He was a good offensive player and tackled hard and low. Raymond made all conference team and played his fourth year. LEE GILBERT A,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,, T agklg Too much praise cannot be given to Lee for his wonder- ful fighting spirit. He fought all the time. When the op- ponents tried to make a gain on either side of him they found a wall. When there was an opening to be made, he made it. We will hear more from Lee next year. ELROY STEPHENS .Z .,.. Guard Stevie always stopped ev- erything that came near him. For finding his way through opponents Elroy could not be beaten. He made his second letter and will not be back next year. FRANK MUMFORD .,........ End Weed', never said anything and was a fighter who never quit. He was injured part of the season, but was a loyal backer. We lose Frank this year by graduation. twenty-eight is 'I HARRISON BURTON ...... End Captain-Elect Buzz,' played under the hand- icap of a fractured shoulder. In spite of this fact he was one of the most brilliant per- formers on the team. Harrison will be back next year 100176 strong: HOWARD HOWELL ...Q..Gua:rd Little but Mighty proved to be a very valuable player. He played in the line and fought in every game. Howard grad- uates this year. CLEO NEWTON ........,.,. Center Rudy held down the posi- tion of center this year, and could always be depended on to put the ball just where it was wanted. He graduates this year, making his second letter. i JEFFERSON STAFFORD End Sorrel Top was a slicker on catching passes. In the clos- ing xvames he was just hitting his stride. He placed on con- ference team and received mention on state team. RAYFORD PRUITT ...... Guard f'Blackie played a good game at guard, and stopped the big boys when they came by. He enjoyed making a mess of his opponents play. He will not be back next year. HOWARD KIRBY .... Halfback Howard was a great player for interference. By his hard tackling, he generally got his man! More will be 'heard from him next year. ILL DIX .................... Halfback Breezy was the smallest man on the team, but made up what he lacked in weight in gritfi Bill always went through the line and got his man. He has two more years and will be- come a star. DONALD SMITH ........ Manager RAYMOND McWHIRTER Halfback Raymie'i the speedy halfback of our perfect machine, was considered one of the fastest in the state. He placed on all-Conference team. Excep- tionally good at plunging the line and long end runs. He will probably be the star of next year. DON UPTGRAFT ...... Fullback A good little offensive player, who was handicapped in weight. He was fast on de- fensive work. This is his second year on the team. TORRENCE McCI..AIN Quarterback Although his first year on the team, Tonic played like a veteran. A great player for interference, and when Tonici' carried the ball he was good for a yardage gain. We are counting on him next year. twenty-nine Football Review The football season of 1929 was far the most glorious in all our ufrlllefic 1-zlrevr. The reason for the tone and quality of that yell is that we Juniors have something to yell about. No class in school surpasses ours in loyalty and sportsmanship. We are Well represented in all fields of activity in the school. Outstanding stars on the gridiron and on the basket-ball court are Juniors. We have our share of honor roll and straight A students, besides being leaders in the music department. The crowning achievement of our year's work was our play. It was a production worthy of such an illustrious class. The success of this year's work has been due to the loyal support of our class members and our always faithful sponsor, C. O. Swenson. Sponsor fr 6 W, .. Base Ball - Baseball practice was called for March 3. Prospects for a good season did not look so bright with but four letter men returning. The loss of such boys as Bennie Renfro, Beryle Murphy, Clyde Todd, Leroy Cargill, Merle Finly, and Charles Cook was felt. To offset that loss, however, was the report of twenty-five boys for practice. Out of these Coach Hamilton had hopes to build one of the best teams possible. Boys who reported for practice at the beginning of the season Were: JeE Stafford, Olin Armstrong and Joe Esserman, catchers, Rayford Pruitt, Glenn Grant, Harold Moore, Bill Foley, and Truman Gant, holding down the pitching. The infielders who reported were Raymond Fuller, Guy Haley, Bill Dix, Thelmer Patterson, Lester Parkhurst, and John Hick- man. Outfielders were Ashcraft, Bernard DeLano, Lamb and Captain Kirby. At this time we cannot say anything about the season Without letting favor or prejudice enter in, but it Would not be a bad prediction to say that Drumright High School will be well represented on the diamond.
