1982 DRUMMONDA PUBLISHED BY THE DRUMMOND HIGH SCHOOL PUBLICATIONS CLASS DRUMMOND TROJANS DRUMMOND, MONTANA DEDICATION JEAN ALICE VICKIE We the Class of 1982, wish to dedicate this year's edition of the Drummonda to the school cooks, Alice Martin, Vickie Skaggs and Jean McMahan. These three people are very deserving of this honor for the faithful service that they have provided the students of Drummond Public Schools. It is not an easy task to prepare meals that will suit the appetites of the number of students that pass through the lunch line each day. They are always there to listen to the many complaints that are given over the course of the school year, and they give many of the students a great deal of encouragement. We, therefore, wish to thank Alice, Vickie and Jean for a job well done. ADMINISTRATION THEY MAKE ALL THE DECISIONS KAREN DESROSIER HELEN SCHAFFER A R Y Seated L to R: Jim Struna and Tom McGowan Standing L to R: Gene McFarland and Cliff Nelson The job of the school administration is to make all the decisions regarding the operating and running of the school. Superintendent Dale Huhtanen had a very busy year as did all the members of the school board in trying to get a new elementary school bond issue passed for the purpose of building a new elementary school. There were several public meetings held, but the bond issue was turned down at the polls. The administration did a very commendable job in the decision making process during the school year. 4 MISTER ANDERSON History, Sociology, Govern- ment, P.E., Track Coach, Stu- dent Council Advisor Home Ec.. It was their job to make sure that each of the students at DHS and Drummond Elementary School received the nutritional requirements. Sometimes a thankless job, they, nevertheless, did the best job possible. THEY DROVE THE BUSES Roberta Rennie. Bob Sackman and Earlene Adler were the three responsible bus drivers who transported the students to and from school. It is a job that carries a great deal of trust and responsibility. Roberta drove the route to Hall. It was Bob’s job to get the students in from Helmville, and Earlene drove the long route to Rock Creek. In good weather and bad. these three got the students to school. Thank you, Roberta, Bob and Earlene, for a job well done. The task of custodian is not an easy one. Dennis Perry did a very commendable job keeping the school clean and warm. Dennis was al- ways there to lend assistance whenever needed. Although a bit camera shy, this was the only place when Dennis was not seen around the school. Thanks, Dennis and keep up the good work. 6 Seniors Thomas R. Ahlin Sondra F. Baker Darcy M. In his first year at DHS Mr. Huenink got things turned around and the band and chorus have never sounded better. We can all be justifiably proud of our music department. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! D. H. S. HOSTS MUSIC MEET Drummond High School was the scene of a music meet held among schools from Alberton, Phillipsburg. Sheridan and Drummond. The meet was a warm-up to the District Music Meet and was organized through the efforts of Music Director Jeff Huenink. It gave the musicians from around the area an opportunity to work with one another and also be under the direction of different music directors. The day-long program concluded with a concert to the public which featured a singing group from Western Montana College. Mr. Huenink wishes to keep this as an annual event. 31 STUDENT COUNCIL GOVERNED DHS Top Row L to R. Mr. A”, Jack C., Tom A.. Doug M.. Brent M : 2nd Row. Bud P . Lisa L., Darcy B.t Julie P.: 3rd Row. STARTERS TRACY PAM LARAE LISA MARY g The girls varsity basketball team this year had a relatively unsuccessful year due to the lack p of experience. With the graduation of 6 seniors off of the team in 1981, Coach Mike Bradshaw was forced to go with a very young team. The team consisted entirely of freshmen and A sophomore ball players. The only members of the team that had any great amount of game D experience on the varsity level were Tracy and Pam. This put the pressure for leadership S upon the shoulders of these two and they carried the responsibility well. Despite the 4-17 |_| record, the girls did learn and progress and should be considered as a dominant factor in the conference in the upcoming year. COACHES DON AND BLAINE SENIORS Drummond is very fortunate to have two great coaches like Mr. Anderson and Mr. Bradshaw. These two men have really in- stilled a desire to win and the Track program at DHS is living proof as they boys teams placed first in both the district and divisional meets. Thanks Mr. A and B This year there were four young men who really helped in the track program. They were Doug Martin, Jack Coughlin, Andy Weaver and Brent Mannix. It will be very hard to replace these four people and we wish to thank them for all of their contribu- tions to DHS. 52 DHS FEMALE TRACKSTERS EARN Sitting L to R: Connie N.. Wendy M., Jean P.. C’mon Lisa. There’s no need to by shy! They call me Studette! The girls' track team had a very successful season, finishing second in the district to perenmel powerhouse Seeley. The girls were led by steady performances from Connie, Tracy and Sondra. The one disappointment came when Connie was injured during practice and was only able to qualify in the 1600 meter run. The girls can really look forward to next year because they were very fortunate only to be los- ing one Senior, who, however, maybe hard to replace. They attained second place in the district this year, but it will be three first next year . . . District. Divisional and STATE!! GO FOR IT, GIRLS!!!! 53 DISTRICT 12C SECOND PLACE SENIOR Sondra Baker was the only Senior who went out for track this year and she really did a good job. Sondra qualified for the State Meet by running the anchor leg on the 1600 meter relay team. It is going to be hard to replace Sondra next year. We wish her all the luck in the future. But, unfortunately, the District 12C and Western Divisional Champion boys' team could only manage to score 4 points. This came on the second place finish by Jack Coughlin in the pole vault. Injuries and inclement weather really hampered the Trojan Tracksters. Those attending and the events in which they qualified are as follows: Doug-110 High hurdles and 330 intermediate hurdles: Dee Bray-1600 meter relay; Connie-1600 meter run; Ranee-100, 200. 400 and 1600 relay: Tracy-100, 200 and 1600 relay; Sondra-1600 relay; Lisa-1600 relay; Pam 1600 relay; Brett -high jump 1600 relay; Cory 1600 relay; Brent- pole vault and discus; Rick- shot put and discus; Jack pole vault; Dean was an alternate in the 1600 relay. TROJANS!! 55 YES, WE HAD A SUCCESSFUL YEAR TROJANS CAPTURE 3rd PLACE IN DISTRICT 12C TROJAN BOYS FINISH 1st IN DISTRICT 12C TRACK TROJAN GIRLS GARNER 2nd IN DISTRICT 12C TRACK TROJAN BOYS REIGN AS WESTERN DIVISION CHAMPS Yes, we had a successful year in sports. Beginning with the football team and ending with track, it was a very good year for those who wore the Blue and White and for those of us who cheered them on to victory. It was a good year because of the basic overall attitude of everyone involved. We began the football season by losing a very hard fought battle with the eventual state champion Arlee Warriors. They beat us 26-22 but not before we had had two touchdowns called back. It was a good year for our Trojan football team. The girls basketball team was not as successful as they wanted to be, but they gained that needed ingredient to success. . . experience. They will be a team to be reconded with in the upcoming years. It was just a matter of not having the right amount of experience when it counted, and this situation will be remedied next year. The boys basketball team had a very successful year despite the fact that they did not finish high in the conference. They were able to win the first of four trophies in district and divisional competition. It took the Trojans several years to accomplish it, but the finally managed to beat Seeley-Swan twice during the same year. The second time came for third place in the District 12C tournament. It was in Track where the Trojans really dominated the competition. The girls put on a strong showing at the District 12C meet and brought home the second place trophy. The boys proved that Drummond was definitely back as the team to beat as they scored a fantastic 111 points in gliding easily into the District 12 C championship and the third hunk of hardware for the trophy case. It was the Trojan boys again in the Western Divisional as they easily walked away with the top prize. Yes, it was a very successful year for our Blue and White clad Trojans. A special thanks must be given to the coaches who never gave up hope. Thank you Coaches Dyer, Eggensperger, Oberweiser, Mike Bradshaw, Anderson and Blaine Bradshaw. WAY TO GO TROJANS.
