SENIOR HISTORY THE CLASS HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 64 Four years ago in the beginning of the sixties , good old D. H. S. got a shot in the arm, THE CLASS OF 64 . That year, under the able leadership of President Gordon Spunich, Vice-President Dick Schaffer, and Secretary Betty Tolman, the new freshmen learned quickly about the ways of high school. With the leadership of our sponsor Mr. Westcott, we went through such ordeals as in- itiation, painting the D , and other such stuff. In our freshman year, we gained Jim Ahlin and Sylvia Lauritsen. We lost Harvey LaRocque, Betty Tolman, and Sylvia Lauritsen. The second year of our glory began by the election of officers. Those elected were: Richard Lacey, president; Joyce Steele, vice-president; and Bev. Oly, secretary. That year we chose Mrs. Skones as our sponsor. We were very lucky our sophomore year because we were the last class to be able to make the freshmen suffer through initiation. We supervised a superior painting job for the D , but due to heavy rains, the job was in vain. The end of our second year in high school was celebrated by a party at Nimrod. That year we gained Bev. Oly, Joyce Steele, and we lost Leora Beavers, Joyce Steele, and Jim Ahlin. Our junior class officers were: president, Richard Lacey; vice-president, Bob Lund; and secre- tary, Gordon Spunich. Our first big activity was the Junior play. It turned out to be an all-school play, but under the supervision of Mrs. Skones we netted more profit on the play than any pre- vious play. Rick Lacey and Ed Spencer were the Boy's State Delegates. The theme of our prom was Oriental Gardens. Donna Baker was chosen as our queen. The car wash by our class proved that our class could carry on without leadership. That day our sponsor, Mrs. Skones, was getting married and the class president was at a science fair. In our senior year Dick Schaffer was president, John Bishop was vice-president, and Dennis Simonich was secretary. Our first annual event was the Senior Ball with the theme Autumn Leaves. Our senior play that year was another success. During the Christmas vacation and into the new year, Ed Spencer and Rick Lacey were fortunate to go to California as members of the Montana Centennial Band. Mrs. Skones was one of the many persons watching the band perform. Many ways for money raising were thought of, but one the most interesting was moving pianos. Since we were such a filthy rich class, we didn't have to spend any more time earning money for our trip to Spokane. Our senior year we gained John Bishop and Steve Groves. We lost Steve and Dennis Skaggs that year. 15
