[16] “MIDNIGHT”—THE ALL-SCHOOL PLAY “THE DAFFY DILLS” — SENIOR PLAY PLAYS DIRECTED BY MISS HAWKINS [ 17] CARNIVAL By the combined efforts of the faculty members and the student body, Drummond High School sponsors a Carnival each year. Each class draws its concessions and the Shop members build the booths. These booths are then decorated with different colors to represent the different classes. This year Miss Clarice Jenkins was elected by the Student Body to be the Carnival Queen of 1946-1947. The Carnival is one of the biggest money-making projects sponsored by the school and the proceeds are placed in the student body fund. THE ROCKY RANGER The traditional school paper The Rocky Ranger under the advisorship of Mr. Sing, has again been active this year. All school news and doings are featured in its publications and it has quite a wide circulation. Comprising a staff of some 18 members, it is edited by Arlene Olsen. GIRLS CLUB The Girls Club, under the leadership of Mrs. Warnke, took a trip to Ham- ilton on October 12, where Girls Clubs from various other towns attended the meeting. Skits and singing were presented, followed by a delicious dinner served in the Hamilton Gym. All the Drummond girls present were initiated into the Home Economics Club. At this writing, the Girls Club is planning a swimming trip to Nimrod. LIBRARY In charge of Miss Hawkins, D. H. S. maintains a small but well-equipped library. Managed by students, it operates very efficiently, even to the extent of fines imposed on overdue books. GLEE CLUB The Girls Glee Club, an old and familiar group, is quite an important fac- tor in school activities, as it furnishes music for the Christmas and Easter pro- grams and also presents a number of selections for the Baccalaureate exer- cises. Under the direction of Mrs. Ramberg, it meets on Mondays and Wednes- days. [ 18 | GLEE CLUB MRS. RAMBERG, DIRECTOR STAFF OF THE “ROCKY RANGER” — SCHOOL PAPER ARLENE OLSEN, EDITOR MR. SING, ADVISOR THE DRUMMONDA Following in the footsteps of Mrs. Allen, who initiated the first Annual D. H. S. has ever had, Mr. Sing and a picked staff ventured forth to maintain the standard set by their predecessor. Much effort and time was devoted to this cause and the finished product speaks for itself. BASKETBALL The Drummond Trojans of '46-'47 boasted a very good season ending with a 13 won, 13 lost record for the year. They had 970 points scored against them, while they chalked up 892 points against their opponents. Captain John Conn led the boys in scoring for the year with 319 points, followed by Bud Cumming, last year's leader, who scored 285. The team placed fourth in the annual District 15, Class B tournament held in Deer Lodge. SCHOOL PLAYS Annually in D. H. S. several plays are given under the direction of Miss Hawkins. Usually, there are two One-Act plays; one All-School play; and a Senior play, presented to obtain funds which the Seniors use in purchasing their going-away present for the school. TRIP TO WARM SPRINGS Every year, the Sociology class is given a day off to visit Warm Springs, Montana's State Hospital for the insane. Under the tutorship of Mrs. Warnke, this year, the students made the usual trip, accompanied by Mr. Sing. TRACK Each year, D. H. S., maintains a track team which competes with teams from adjoining districts. At this writing, the team is in training and Coach Leach looks forward to a very successful season with several of his lettermen back. TYPING CLASS MR. LEACH AND MR. HENDERSON, INSTRUCTORS HOME ECONOMICS MRS. WARNKE, INSTRUCTOR t 21 ] FROSH INITIATION A party was given in the School Assembly room at the beginning of the school year for the new frosh entering school. Court was held with Joe Rice as judge and the other senior class members as jurors. The Frosh, to- gether with Mrs. Warnke and Mr. Sing, were tried and all found guilty; then, given spats and various other sentences. After the initiation, games were played and lunch was served. Dancing was enjoyed until twelve. BIOLOGY CLASS Interested in raising funds so that trips could be taken to supplement the course, the Biology Class, under the instructorship of Mr. Sing, held a dance in Hall on October 12. The students very capably handled the affair, selling tickets and lunches and even providing some entertainment. George Lacey's orchestra played for the dance. As this went to press, the class had scheduled trips to the Smelter in Ana- conda, the Nursery in Helena, the State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge, and a trip to Missoula. TEACHERS MEA CONVENTION On October 24, the four faculty members journeyed to Helena to attend the All State Teachers Convention. This departure from school, though ben- eficial to the faculty, was viewed with over-enthusiasm by the student body, as it meant two holidays for them. SENIOR BALL The Graduating Class of 1947 held their Annual Senior Ball on November 29 in the High School Gymnasium. Music was furnished by Dick Merley's orchestra from Helena. Dancing was in progress from 10 p.m. till 2 a.m. CHEMISTRY MR. SING, INSTRUCTOR [23] NEW YEAR'S EVE BASKETBALL DANCE On December 31, the Basketball team, under the advisorship of their coach, Mr. Leach, sponsored their annual New Year's Eve Dance in the School Gymnasium. A large crowd was in attendance and danced from 10 till 2 to the music of Walter Duncan's Swing Foursome from Anaconda. The dance was a huge success. AMERICAN HISTORY CLASS The American History Class, under the guidance of Mrs. Warnke, motored to Helena on February 13, to witness a session of the State Legislature. For most of the students, it was an educational experience, while for others, it was quite a novelty going through the Capitol Building. BINGO GAME AND DANCE The Paper Staff sponsored a Bingo Party and Dance on March 1 to obtain funds for turning out a better and more expensive Annual as a tribute to the Class of 1947. Prior to the games, the members put on a program, replete with music, singing, and story telling. Expensive prizes were secured for the Bingo game and dancing was enjoyed by all to the music of Two Blondes and a Brunette. Mr. Sing acted as Master of Ceremonies and also played drums. SADIE HAWKINS DANCE For the first time in the history of D. H. S., a Sadie Hawkins Dance was held on March 15 in the High School Gymnasium. It was sponsored by Mrs. Warnke and her Girls Club. Chances were sold on a fourteen pound ham and a cake was raffled off at Chinese auction. Dancing was enjoyed to the music of Kreig's orchestra from Maxville. GIRLS’ CLUB MRS. WARNKE, DIRECTOR LIBRARY STAFF MISS HAWKINS, ADVISOR [25] HOBO PARTY The Freshmen and Juniors gave a party for the Sophomores and Seniors on March 28. All attending the party were to come dressed as hobos. An enjoyable evening was had by all, playing games, eating lunch, and dancing to Kreig's orchestra. Sponsors of the party were Mrs. Wamke and Mr. Sing. JUNIOR PROM On April 12, the Gymnasium, featuring a Moonlight and Roses theme, was beautifully decorated by the Junior class for the annual Junior Prom. The Grand Promenade began at 10 o'clock, before a large crowd, and was led by Junior Class president and vice-president. Bob McCall and Jean Bissonette, respectively. Following the march, Mr. Sing, the Junior class sponsor, deco- rated the head of Arlene Olsen—chosen by the Juniors to reign as the Prom Queen—with a silver crown mounted with jewels and presented her with a corsage of white carnations. Excellent music was furnished by Walter Duncan and his orchestra and everybody enjoyed a pleasant evening. JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET Again, the Juniors of D. H. S., using an Indian theme, honored the Seniors with a banquet on April 23 in the study hall of the high school. A delicious turkey dinner was served by the Catholic Ladies of Drummond. Speeches and bouquets from the students filled the bill of fare, aided and abetted with talks by Junior and Senior class sponsors, Mr. Sing and Mr. Leach, respectively, with Mrs. Wamke and Miss Hawkins completing the faculty's toll of speeches.
