The Mon Few individuals have within them the ingredients that fit the formula for a high school principal. This formula calls for a wide scope of qualities: diplomacy, decisive- ness, the stamina to stand firm in the face of criticism, and the ability to negotiate between a variety of viewpoints. At Druid Hills this formula is fulfilled by Mr. Sid Laird. t 24 Wil F -1 F7 The Right-Hond Mon The iob of assistant principal requires more responsibility than most people real- ize. It involves performing many designat- ed tasks, ranging from menial clean-up chores to disciplinary measures. It takes a man willing to do these with little recogni- tion. Despite a strong Devil defense Athens gained control and held the Devils scoreless until the fourth quarter. It was too late to counter an earlier Troian surge as Druid Hills fell, 30-8. For the fourth game the Druids found themselves up against the Lakeside Vikings. Despite a l3-O loss the Devils did make waves to rock Lakeside's confidence. Druid Hills was successful in moving the ball throughout the first half. lm- pressive performances were handed in by Boo Williams with a 40 yard punt return, by Bill Nichols and a 4th quarter interception, and by a great offensive effort by Steve Mid- dour. With fighting spirit the Devils next faced the Bulldogs of Chamb- lee, who unleashed their full fury. Even the outstanding performances of Steve Middour, Leonard Grabia, Mike Blanton, and Andy Hall were not able to curb the Dogs. At the final gun the scoreboard recorded a fatal 47-13. I09 Druid Hills was out for a win as they sharpened their pitchforks for Sequoyah. The Devils singed a warpath Through the Braves' defense and forged to a 7-O lead. Williams' return of the second half kickoff for a touchdown increased Devil spirits. However good fortune was mashed by the Braves' tomahawks. The disappointing final score read 2l-T6. The Devils won their initial victory of the season on a soggy, muddy November T. Slipping and sliding down the field seemed to be the major event of the evening. By the half both teams found themselves wet, wild, and scoreless. A Whealler field goal late in the game was the difference as Druid Hills marched home with a 3-O glorious Homecoming victory. Devils versus Briarcliff! Although the Bunnies took an early lead with a field goal, the Druids came stam- peding back with a Tommy Webb TD and a Whealler field goal. The outstanding efforts of ends Bill Nichols and Robert Copeland further extinguished the Bun- nies' hopes of victory. Finishing touches were added by Mike Moon's maiming of the Baron line and a Brooks interception for another touchdown. The Devils hopped over the Bunnies, 17-3. ,s, 9, QSOQ lI0 sssww . 'Hts U XT? s- fix, 94' qty It was a bleak November night for the Druid Hills-Tucker contest. A small crowd braved frigid temperatures, snow-flurries, and strong winds to watch Tucker emerge with a 34-7 victory. The final bout of the season presented the Devils with their most flashing victory as they met the Bulldogs of Decatur. The Hellions devastated Deca- tur's entire game and the dogs caught few footballs and much hell as a result. The explosive aerial attack led by quarterback Nichols hit paydirt in the clutches of Middour and Brooks. The Whealler toe was in prime form as E. O. scored seven points. With the showy T3-3 win the Druids rounded out a slightly under par 3-6-l. P Q!
