Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1966 volume:

1966 GOLDEN ERA DRIVER HIGH SCHOOL WINCHESTER, INDIANA Since 1898, this building has been the center of bustling activity. As its era draws to a close, we turn to hopes of a new, modern building; but, the memories tucked within the walls of the building and the hearts of its alumni will last for eternity. I FIND THE GREAT THING IN THIS WORLD IS, NOT SO MUCH WHERE WE STAND, AS IN WHAT DIRECTION WE ARE MOVING. - goethe AAJESTIC, ENCHANTING, ELEGANT - These yords symbolize the magnetic atmosphere or Plantation in Paradise. Miss Jane )liver and her court members, Miss Dianne wiggins and Miss Jacque Wyrick, reigned ver the evening's festivities as the juniors •aid final tribute to the seniors of 1965. 4P- 6 THRILLS, EXCITEMENT, EXPECTA- TIONS—All mounted as the Marching Band ushered Miss Marsha Horn and Miss Debbie Durbin to the 1965 Mardi Gras. As in past years, the Driver representatives captured high honors for their outstanding talents and performance in the Pumpkin Queen Contest. 7 0 r'CS t mTJOW f SPIRIT, ENTHUSIASM, AND DETERMINATION - With the spirit of competition and the goal of victory, preparation for the second Driver Homecoming began early last summer and con- tinued to the post game dance. This year the class of 1966 again rated a place on the school float trophy and added a Homecoming Queen to their credit. The bonfire, snake dance, parade, and scoreboard dedication were climaxed with a decisive victory for the Driver Grid, and the entire weekend earned praise and acclaim from alumni and students alike. 9 BRIGHT LIGHTS, GREASE PAINTS, AND CURTAIN CALLS —These are the makings of a play. Through fine casting and excellent directing, all productions had a touch of professionalism. The all school pro- duction, Annie Get Your Gun, joined past musicals in the success column; and the Class of 66 pre- sented two hilarious comedies, Pioneer Go Home and Stardust which were highly acclaimed. 10 TALKING, SHUFFLING, LAUGHING-These are the sounds of a school year. From the first day of school through spring with the Prom and Honor Day and even in summer with Driver Education, the old halls of ivy are filled with the sounds of enthusiastic students hurrying on their way to new experiences. 12 13 Devoted administration members capably perform their services by directing the students in a daily program of edu- cation. HONOR SOCIETY CREATES PROJECTS To promote the qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, and service, and to establish an atmosphere which cultivates these qualities are aims of the National Honor Society. Those Juniors and Seniors who maintain a B average and whobest represent the standards of the Honor Society are elected to become members by the faculty. The National Honor Society will continually play an active role at Driver High School. The oratorical contestants of the Junior and Senior classes combined graceful poise, solid determination, and hard work to present many excellent speeches to the student body of Driver High School. Several of the orations portrayed a theme of arousing patriotism while others dealt with the problems of teen-agers today. Every contestant presented a fine speech and a great challenge to the judges. They displayed the fine ability always present at Driver High School. SEVERAL TAKE PART IN ORATIONS Left to Right: Dave Triezenberg, Tom Barker, second place Junior; Sandy Popplewell, first place Junior; Emogene Mooreman, Sue Hendrick- son, Jane Cable, Joyce Pettyjohn, second place Senior; Tim Elliott; Doug Dwiggins, first place Senior. 67 Doug Dwiggins and Nancy Ro- mack. STARDUST” Comedy seems to have been a specialty in drama of the class of 1966. Stardust was a delightful satire on schools of method acting. The leading characters were portrayed very effectively by Nancy Romack and Doug Dwiggins. The cast provided vitality in their parts and all should be commended for another smash hit! Nicki Bosworth and Joe Shierling. Charades or Arthritis? Doug Baker and Doug Dwiggins. It's like this, son. PIONEER GO HOME” A slapstick comedy was the choice for the class of 1966 class play. Heading the cast of expert players was Doug Baker in the challenging role of Toby Kwimper. Pioneer Go Home was a hilarious madcap play about a crazy mixed up family who would rather live on welfare and help our nation out than work. Hats off to a superb production. Nancy Romack and Marsha Horn. I pledge alle- giance— 68 Phil Carter, Susan Wallace, Larry Fast. HELP! HELP! ANNIE GET YOUR GUN” Due to the tremendous talents of the leading char- acters David Kelly and Dianne Dwiggins, the musical Annie Get Your Gun was a spectacular accom- plishment. With special recognition to Mrs. Lois Jarrett and Mr. Charles Buckley for their fine di- recting and the cast for their great support, the musical remains unsurpassed in its effort to be another excellent production in Driver High School. Cynthia Harrison and Doug Dwiggins. We'll share it all. Dianne Dwiggins and David Kelly. It's Wonderful. 69 Twisting, pushing, and driving, all the Falcon teams moved onward. With determination they faced each new foe, and through individual drive and team spirit, our team had a suc- cessful year. GUESTS HOME 1 ' , “ t . ’ ., ■? A VICTORIOUS SEASON FOR THE VARSITY Starting the season with two coaches and a young team, the Falcons quickly gained confidence by de- feating Hagerstown for the first time in seven years. Moving on to the next con- ference foe. Driver was able to overpower Royerton with their best defensive exhibi- tion of the season, holding the Redbirds to a minus 31 yards rushing. A homecoming victory over Cambridge City and the annual victory over Union City helped complete our victorious season.
