INDUSTRIAL ARTS Future engineering students learn in our industrial arts to draw machine parts with skill and pre- cision. In this day of modem living, a knowledge of these fundamentals is a tool which will be used by them all. SCIENCE Today it is becoming increasingly important to be conscious of the fact that our future vitally depends on scientific development. Facts change, new ideas develop, and a whole new concept may be bom in a relatively short time. The science laboratory fills not only an im- portant place in our school but also in our future. Scientific progress connects the world of today with the world of tomorrow. 0SOQOOOOOQ 0300 Q 0 0000 0 Oil (SPACE BAR) COMMERCE Commerce, although a department with elective courses, is well attended. This department affords the opportunity for a well-rounded preparation for careers in the modern business world. More speci- fically, this department enables the individual to prepare himself in the fields of Bookkeeping, Clerk Typists, and Stenography. SOCIAL STUDIES Social Studies is the study of man in his environment, both yesterday and today, and his learning of the art of self-government. Through history we explore the past, its successes and its failures, and thus learn to understand the present. Government, economics, and civics explain the status of our world today politically and economically. 23

ENGLISH Through complete understanding of the English language and a study of its great works, students learn to express themselves knowl- edgeably. The use of proper Eng- lish paints the character of the individual. Through the interpre- tation and understanding of great literature, the student is able to broaden his perspective of the whole of life. FOREIGN LANGUAGE Throughout the world people are constantly coming into contact with each other. Each foreign language is the key to many adventures in reading and living, traveling, and studying. Foreign language study helps students to better understand English and to enlarge vocabu- laries. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Health, social efficiency, and cul- ture are the main objectives of the physical education program. This department selects activities which aid in the attainment of these objectives. ART Artistic abilities of Driver students are displayed in sketches and finished paintings which line the walls of the art room. It is through the brush, pen, and pencil that the students learn self-expression. 22

MATH Instructors in this department require exact- ness and precision of their mathematically inclined students who learn to deal with quantities, magnitudes, and forms, and the relationships of these numbers and symbols. It is through this mathematical analysis that students learn to acquire skill in arriv- ing at logical conclusions. GUIDANCE Our capable counselors direct and ad- vise us on our future careers and voca- tions. Their helpful suggestions enable many students to make the right de- cisions concerning their future. The counselors are always available for consultation concerning school or per- sonal problems. It is through their advice and help that the students make the most of their time. HOME ECONOMICS Apetizing aromas, sewing machines, and group discussions are all part of the Home Economics Department. It is here that girls are trained to fill the positions of future homemakers and home economists. 24
