THROUGH REPRESENTATION 7 South Pacific, The Mouse That Roared, and Take Care of My Little Girl gave Driver music students and the class of 1965 an opportunity to gain experience in drama. Through hard work and application of their skills, these students have made our school dramas a success. 10 EXPERIENCE THROUGH DRAMA EXPEP THRC !' I’TK ei i m I !3Nn03 ifcjonu r S i N 3 R 3 13 Hi . Driver High School has provided this leadership. They teach the knowledge necessary for academic learning. They help the student grow mentally and physically. They provide guidance when needed. They are always available for extra help and advice. They answer above and beyond the call of duty as they contribute time for sponsorship of clubs and organi- zations. They become one of the keys in the student’s future role in society. MUSIC Music folios and instrument cases are trade- marks of aspiring musicians. Stimulating performances in the variety of musicals and various concerts afford culture to the school and the community. In each presentation the music department seeks and succeeds in rendering these unique, memorable programs in terms of music and setting. LIBRARY Our affable Librarian is endlessly serving the students of Lee L. Driver. She is willing to help whether it be in finding a magazine for enjoyment or references for research. 21 ENGLISH Through complete understanding of the English language and a study of its great works, students learn to express themselves knowl- edgeably. The use of proper Eng- lish paints the character of the individual. Through the interpre- tation and understanding of great literature, the student is able to broaden his perspective of the whole of life. FOREIGN LANGUAGE Throughout the world people are constantly coming into contact with each other. Each foreign language is the key to many adventures in reading and living, traveling, and studying. Foreign language study helps students to better understand English and to enlarge vocabu- laries. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Health, social efficiency, and cul- ture are the main objectives of the physical education program. This department selects activities which aid in the attainment of these objectives. ART Artistic abilities of Driver students are displayed in sketches and finished paintings which line the walls of the art room. It is through the brush, pen, and pencil that the students learn self-expression. 22 INDUSTRIAL ARTS Future engineering students learn in our industrial arts to draw machine parts with skill and pre- cision. In this day of modem living, a knowledge of these fundamentals is a tool which will be used by them all. SCIENCE Today it is becoming increasingly important to be conscious of the fact that our future vitally depends on scientific development. Facts change, new ideas develop, and a whole new concept may be bom in a relatively short time. The science laboratory fills not only an im- portant place in our school but also in our future. Scientific progress connects the world of today with the world of tomorrow. 0SOQOOOOOQ 0300 Q 0 0000 0 Oil (SPACE BAR) COMMERCE Commerce, although a department with elective courses, is well attended. This department affords the opportunity for a well-rounded preparation for careers in the modern business world. More speci- fically, this department enables the individual to prepare himself in the fields of Bookkeeping, Clerk Typists, and Stenography. SOCIAL STUDIES Social Studies is the study of man in his environment, both yesterday and today, and his learning of the art of self-government. Through history we explore the past, its successes and its failures, and thus learn to understand the present. Government, economics, and civics explain the status of our world today politically and economically. 23 MATH Instructors in this department require exact- ness and precision of their mathematically inclined students who learn to deal with quantities, magnitudes, and forms, and the relationships of these numbers and symbols. It is through this mathematical analysis that students learn to acquire skill in arriv- ing at logical conclusions. GUIDANCE Our capable counselors direct and ad- vise us on our future careers and voca- tions. Their helpful suggestions enable many students to make the right de- cisions concerning their future. The counselors are always available for consultation concerning school or per- sonal problems. It is through their advice and help that the students make the most of their time. HOME ECONOMICS Apetizing aromas, sewing machines, and group discussions are all part of the Home Economics Department. It is here that girls are trained to fill the positions of future homemakers and home economists. 24 BUS DRIVERS FRONT, Left to Right: Fred Cox, Richard Little, Eugene Paschal, Ray Austin, Ben Prescott, Leroy Stephens, and Norval Harris. As a candi- date representing Driver, she won the District 9 FFA sweet- heart contest. Cheryl’s routine, baton twirling, proved to be the best, and she was selected from seventeen girls. Driver is justly proud to have their first FFA District Sweetheart. District 9 Sweetheart, Cheryl Watson FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA 74 BOOK JACKETS HONOR SOCIETY 75 ORATORS AND ORATIONS SENIORS JUNIORS Linda Hahn, Senior winner, had a pleasing aire in the manner she conveyed her topic, The Decision” which dealt with school drop outs. Sara Fitch, in her oration, What Can We Do?” told what the individual could do for his country. These con- testants presented a great challenge to our judges, and we owe a peat deal of thanks to them for their fine contribution. Our judges were Mrs. Jack Car- penter, Mr. William Hunter, and Rev. Homer Vail. JUNIORS Joyce Pettyjohn, Sara Fitch, Cynthia Clements, Melinda Barga. 76 QUEENS HOMECOMING This year Driver High School sponsored their first homecoming. Chosen from each class as queen representatives were Anne Overman, senior, Marsha Horn, junior, Debbie Durbin, sophomore, and Marsha Wickersham, freshman. The week’s activities culminated from the student selection of the queen and the bonfire, to the parade of queens and floats held before the game. The winning candidate, Anne Overman, was crowned, robed, and presented with a dozen red roses during the halftime of the homecoming game between Royerton and Driver. The student enthusiasm and participation showed that this event will be all the more successful in 1965. PUMPKIN Cathy Skinner, junior representative, gained the title of 1964 Pumpkin Queen. To start the activities of the Mardi Gras, a banquet was held in honor of the queen candidates. The following Wednesday, the junior chamber of commerce sponsored a style and talent show. Cathy performed a twirling routine high- lighted with a fire baton. With her talent and beauty combined, Cathy was selected to reign as 1964 Mardi Gras queen for Randolph County. 78 Cathy Skinner HOMECOMING COURT JUNIOR SOPHOMORE FRESHMAN Marsha Horn Debbie Durbin MARDI GRAS Marsha Wickersham Linda Campbell, senior representa- tive, was second runner-up for the 1964 Mardi Gras queen. For her talent Linda did a comical pantomime of Let Me Entertain You.” Her lighthearted performance captured the audience’s heart for the dura- tion of her skit. Driver was proud of her queen and equally proud of her second runner-up. Linda Campbell 79 THE MOUSE THAT ROARED SOUTH Because of the acting ability of Cherri Shively and Dave Kelly, Driver High School’s second mus- ical was a great success. Professionally, the entire cast played their roles well and enjoyed every minute of it. The community ac- knowledges the direction of Mr. Buckley and Mr. Franks in bringing us such fine entertainment. 80 TAKE CARE OF MY LITTLE GIRL PACIFIC The humor in this music- al was well-handled by Mike Skinner and Fran Triezenberg. Greg Raisor and Dianne Dwiggins add- ed a flavor of beauty and romance. The capable cast conveyed to the audience a vivacious humor and an evening of delightful enter- tainment. With the brisk autumn weather and victory on everyone’s mind, the mighty Falcons charged into the football season. A good job done,” is the only thing that can be said concerning Coach Wiggs’ task of shaping up the team. Along with spirit was the desire to win, and perhaps that desire was best shown when the Falcons proved to be too much for the Royerton Redbirds at our first Homecoming Game.
