On campus, too, 1977 was a busy, progressive year. The department of Community Affairs and Governmental Relations expanded, moving into its own building and increasing its services and involvement with the surrounding com- munity. During this time, the Public Relations department of the University was created, meeting the needs of other areas of communica- tions. Again, the residential sector on campus need- ed more facilities. This resulted in the opening of the Residential Living Annex. Once the On- cological Hospital, this older structure was refurbished for student use. The needs of the graduate students were also met with the opening of the Graduate Apart- ments. These apartments also include a solar house, located on the top of the building, another senior design project. Furthermore, a new Graduate Placement Recruitment Center had been developed from the old Linton's Restaurant which was purchas- ed in 1977. In 1978, the nation was still involved in the SALT talks, conflicts in the Middle East, and in- flation. Yet, one giant step, of global significance, was taken between Washington and Peking to begin normal diplomatic rela- tions. Then there was the first test tube baby and the turmoil in Iran. The opening of the new Residence Hall in September 1978 came just in time. This co-ed dorm holds 400 residents and is designed dif- ferently from any other dorm on campus. Although it is only three stories tall, it occupies the entire block between Powelton Avenue and Race Street, along Thrity-Third Street. Besides the luxury of wall-to-wall carpeting, moveable furniture, and a courtyard, the lounges are large, making it comfortable for students to study as well as to socialize. Also during this year, the Rincliffe Gallery was completed in memory of Roy George Rincliffe, a Drexel Trustee from 1955 to 1976. This addition to the Museum Collection consists of a collection of seventy-five Boehm porcelains which were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cannon. These fine pieces are on permanent display in specially-constructed cases located in Randell Hall. Although 1979 is not yet over it has already brought change to Drexel. On the ground floor of the Creese Student Center is the newest addi- tion to the food services on campus, The Dragon's Den . In a hope to meet changing stu- dent needs, this fast-food service was opened in

Future plans are also in progress as this Decade at Drexel comes to a close. With possession of the First Pennsylvania Bank building at Thirty-Second and Market Streets, tentative plans are being made to repair the structure, possibly to house the Registl-ar's or Comptx-oller's Offices. Eventually, it may be considered for a new Graduate School of Business and Administration. Drexel also expects to acquire the former SEPTA power station at Thirty-Third and Market Streets as a site for a new S I X 5 E E i Q if , N. as I B 8 3 561' zsF1.xife'sr -. .I ff: .. -,.,gggnoUilllQl... ,' as-W B A ,ff5 f 41:13 ,, TP .
