IHE 19 l LEXERII . . . takes pleasure in congratulating the Alumni of Drexel Institute upon the success- ful achievement of their first tangible goals of the Alumni Expansion Program - the Alumni Scientific Laboratories Building and the acquisition of the land which is to be the new Drexel Athletic Field. The Alumni recognized the dire need for in- creased facilities for the Institute soon after the last war. The successful completion of the War Memorial Fund Drive initiated the formulation of extensive plans for the expan- sion of Drexel. These ideas were perfected by degrees. by much handling and polishing. by many voices. until. in the fall term of 1950. the Alumni Scientific Laboratories Building was formally opened. Alumni and friends of the Institute have al- ready over-subscribed the 5350.000 Alumni appeal in support of the expansion effort. At present. plans are being drawn up for the next step in the growth of Drexel . . . an industrial university.
