The development of graduate programs offering Mas- ter 's and Doctoral degrees in the basic medical sci- ences led in I 95 7 to the establishment ofa Graduate School. Today, Hahnemann 's Graduate School of- fers Master's and Doctoral degrees in both the Basic Sciences and Mental Health Sciences. This edition of ENDl:'A VORS is the Hrst year- book ever to be published in the history of Hahne- mann University Graduate School. ln an effort to raise community awareness of the Graduate School and also to promote unity among graduate students of various disciplines, the Graduate School year- book was established. We hope that this yearbook will become a tradition with future graduate stu- dents and remain the symbol of unity its creators intended it to be. MEN TAI. HEAI. As a university department it serves the Graduate School. the School of Al- lied Health Professions and the School of Medicine. Briefly. the sci- ence of anatomy is the study of structural organization integrated with function, from the molecular level to the body as a whole. A visit to a departmental research laborato- ry will show instrumentation com- mon to other disciplines. ln addition to a variety of microscopes from light to electron. one will End stereotaxic. electrophoretic, scintillation count- ing. radiation, immunological and computer equipment. Active re- search programs are conducted in cell biology. neuromorphology. mus- culoskeletal system and immunolo- gy. Graduate students are provided excellent opportunities for expand- ing their horizons in selected re- search proiects. in one or a combination of areas. A highlight of the academic program is the Ray- mond C Truex Distinguished Lec- tureship which provides students with the opportunity to meet and dis- cuss their research interests with the Distinguished lecturers. A major at- traction ofthe Department is the re- nowned Raymond C Truex Museum. ISI ,- gf .KD 'I 5 . O Q - ...Y . . ' VV, 0 .en 6. Q H, AWA,-A .. ,X -F - .'.' MORSE CHAIRMAN SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY Otorhinolarynology The Master of Speech Pathology and Audiology program prepares a student to assess and manage the communication disorders of adults and children. Students in this program are engaged in clinical activity throughout the academic program. In essence, the walls of the clinic and classroom have been dissolved, allowing the student to draw on the resources of each in relation to the day to day training experiences. A unique interdepartmental cooperation allows students to develop expertise in recognizing and describing a variety of behaviors and symptomologies, and to determine how communication disorders relate within the broader framework of an individual's psychological and physical status. in - 1 -fn-p-vi 1 L We 're Learning 35 We 're in training for lhis?? 070001310 Cookie P10856 Eagerly awaiting comps ' I'-' I Q rf F C-F . The education experience consists of three main categories: faj conceptual learning about family therapy in general, family relational dy- namics, evaluation and therapy in particular: C b j supervised clinical learning from working with families with a wide variety of presenting prob- lems as well as racial, ethnic. and socio-eco- nomic backgrounds: fcj contextual learning about a variety of professional settings in which family therapy as well as family based consulta- tion and supervision will be key features of this experience. The two year program can be extended to a maximum of three years in order to accomodate the student who must continue to work while pursuing graduate school. They need to know why innovations succeed or fail, how well their organizations are func- tioning, about the need for new services, and about the outcomes of existing services. The ability to provide this information requires professional researchers and evaluators who possess a unique set of skills: a working knowledge of research design and applied statistics, an understanding of organizational behavior and social change, a sensitivity to the politics of working in applied settings, and an understanding of the principles of information utilization, .fiat-IAAMAFQN UNEHEL-LSLTE PREVENTQ -A RESEARCH CEN'L'EBi ,, AND AP HUMPH iifbvi Al 56 A-XP D U ---nsu1ur-' wr f.
