VIEWS OF THE U Hahnemann the Healer, is the public part of the University, playing a major role in local health care. There are also Hahnemann the Researcher and Hahnemann the Educator. In the classroom, the laboratories, the library, as on 'the floors,' Hahnemann has been proud to be the proving ground for quality. Like Lee lacocca, we challenge anybody to take our graduates for a test drive. One will be pleased with the tempera- ment, good humor, and above all, the competence of the product. To some, Hahne- mann is merely a group of buildings on the corner of Broad and Vine Streets, but we kn0W better.

The Quaker City Billy Penn blew it. He could have dropped anchor anywhere. But no, he picked Philly. Think of it, we could have been in California, Jane Fonda-sizing, getting tanned and being blond. Instead, we're gazing at a giant rusty clothespin, exterminating roaches, getting sinusitis and being cold. There's no justice. But Penn didn't really do so badly. Philadelphia became a center for the exchange and evaluation of ideas on religion, science, and the arts. The city is rich with history: Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and Elfreth's Alley, the oldest residental street in the country. The arts are well represented by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Academy of Music, among many cultural institutions. Philly is also the city of neighborhoods, with most major ethnic groups sharing their culture and cuisine. lt was in this fertile environment that the Hahnemann institutions began. Now in it's third century, Philadelphia continues to be a moving force for progress. The courage, foresight, and evenhandedness with which Billy Penn founded the city will be carried on by its citizens. Philadelphia has all the problems of any of the great northeastern cities. However, the future is as bright now as in Penn's day. After all, we've got the world's largest clothespin.
