The Battlew One night as the ward lay quiet, I with stethoscope in 0813 Examined well a sleeping child to see what I could hear, Amidst a bloody battlefield with flapping valves around, I heard the age-old battle of the murmur and the sound. Shh-Boom, Shh-Boom! Pve had enough, cried out the angry sound, It matters not what phase Pm in, you always hang around, Boom-Shh, BoomShh, the murmur wheezed, you better go away, It matters not how loud you get because Pm here to stay. Let's call a temporary truce, I heard the sound implore, Let's redefine the issues of what we're fighting for, You want this heart, I want this heart, the patient wants it too, 'Hue strongest pair will hold the fort-it looks as though yon're through. My strength is definition, you shapeless jelly fish, You're nothing but a grumble, a whisper, and a hiss, Although at times I have my faults-a split Ml, a clang, a bend, I have much to my credit-a beginning, and an end. For you arise from nowhere like a thief out of the night, You follow at my footsteps, and you quiver in my light, I set the pace, Pm clear and strong-sometimes with truth I ring, You ill-defined vibration, you slither, and you cling. Mm-mm the murmur buzzed with glee, you uninspired frump, You may be booming loud or sharp, but all you do is thump! While I can be the whistling wind, or better still a lover's sigh, The rumble of a distant train as it goes racing by. I sometimes come before you-and oft times drown you out, And all I do is murmur, while you are forced to shoutg Innocuous I may be, but I am deadly too, Corrected or neglected Pm more powerful than you! There was a moment of silence, I thought the heart was gone, When in unison I heard them scream, we both will carry on ! Pump on you tough old muscle, the battle is resuming- And then their cries were all drowned out beneath the wild Shh-Booming. You won't believe my story, but maybe late one night, You'll hear a vocal interlude when sound and murmur light, Until then I have living proof of their battle and their doom, Just listen hard you'll hear them- Shh-Boom, Shh-Boom, Sbh-Boom.
