Its birth as a science is ri corded many centuries before the Christian era. Bein the oldest division of the discipline of medicine, it only fitting that by means of its study and its metho the student begins his journey into knowledge. The firi subject to be studied. it is likewise the first to nurtul and strengthen those attributes and qualities so essenti: to the physician: for there is patience in dissection, pe severance in memorization, and the exercise of intellei tion in the perception of significant relationships. Too often the debt of the student to his teacher is a but forgotteng not so in anatomy where the names of th great workers have been enshrined in the nomenclatui -Galen, Malphigi, Hunter, Stensen, His and countle: others. The debt owed to these, our teachers of time pas is inestimable: many worked under adverse condition frequently in dehance oi existing lawsgthe references tt which they had access were meager and often inaccurate their only encouragement lay in their insatiable desii to dispel ignorance and to clarify doubt.
