Y I 4 lt is with deep satisfaction that I greet you now as doctors, and con- gratulate you on the occasion of your achievement of a long-sought goal. One of the more rewarding dividends of the practice of medicine is the opportunity for continuing growth which it affords-an opportunity of greater dimensions, perhaps, than exists in any other pursuit you might haxfe chosen. Traditionally we think of' education as an expe- rience of the young formative years. But medicine is a lifetime of learn- ing, and in this sense, yours is the privilege of remaining young as long as you live. I earnestly hope that each of you will exercise that privilege to the full, recognizing that your formal right to hold life in your hand -the doctor's degree-is but the prologue to acquiring the kind of com- petence and judgment which such an awesome right morally requires. These crowded years of indoctrination have afforded you little chance to develop extra-professional, or cultural, interests, yet I hope you are sensible of the value of such interests in the life of a doctor and that when you are in a position to regulate your time, as you soon will be, you will embrace them. They can enrich your years beyond measure. Finally, to each of you, I extend my heartfelt wish for a full measure of years, achievement and satisfaction.
