PATHOI ,OCLY -Xn electrifying silence descended on the class as Dr. Sappington entered the room. NYalking erect and completely ignoring the odd faces gap- ing at him. he began his first lecture. ln a moder- ate. hesitant voice which seemed to penetrate the innermost recesses of the mind, he started his last lecture series. Out' class had the distinct honor of being taught by this great teacher. In an oral exam. he demanded that the student think clearly and know practically everything. No one will ever forget the drama associated with these exams and gazing into his cold. steel blue. x-ray eyes. .Xbly assisting Dr. Sappington were Drs. l'lO1'I'lt'i:f, Froio and Barthniaier. These men guided us in the laboratories and drove us blind looking at slides. Above all. was the slightly built white master of pathology. JOHN E. GREGORY M.D. Dr. Gregory, a research inclined pathologist has inherited the task of heading the department. Under his stimulation, a complete photo- graphic laboratory and a modern green room have been built. Several research projects are in progress. Gentlemen, you will be good doctors if on ap- proaching your patient you will say to yourself, 'There, but for the grace of God, go I. 7 39 -Samuel Sappington.

In reality, our first lecture was partly delivered on opening day of the Sophomore year by Dr. Beutner. Undoubtedly. the notes were mixed up. Nevertheless, Dr. Beutner. massive as a 'Wagner- ian Hero and gifted with a rollicking sense of humor, pushed the instruction. Dr. Blessey. lover of line music, cautioned us not to play Chopin be- fore studying Prescription lYriting. Drs. Pratt. Calesnick and Christensen developed our methods in the laboratory. Today the Pharmacology labs are the finest in the city as a result of intensive remodeling.
