VALEDI C TORIA Susan Kay Motley Tonight marks the evening my classmates and I have been waiting for and working towards for the past 12 years. We, the class of 1975, arrived at Drexel High School to- night for our last time as Seniors. There are many differ- ent emotions running through us at this time as we feel a bit sad, rather nostalgic, perhaps even regretful for some things. But at the same time there is a strong feeling of excitement and anticipation in the air for what the future holds for us. Up until this time, we have been children. Tonight, however, we stand before you as young adults, hopefully ready to cope with the problems at hand with wisdom and grace in our decisions. I believe I can truthfully say we are prepared to join the world as young adults now, and we have each and everyone of you in the community to thank for this. For not only have you given us an education in academic areas, but you have taught us the real meanings of free- dom, pride, happiness, friendship, love, and life itself. True, Drexel may be small in area and population, but these assets along with many others, make it a joyful place in which to live. Valedictory means to bid farewell or pertains to an occasion of leave -taking. I am reluctant to say farewell to Drexel I-ligh, my teachers, and my friends, as they have been such a big part of my life these past few yearsg and yet I realize that change is a part of growing up. Thanks to our teachers, parents, community, and our numerous childhood experiences Qboth good and bady, we are ready to accept that change. Our wish now is 'that we will adjust to whatever the future holds for us with grace, wisdom, honesty, and a firm belief in ourselves as individuals. Thank you for allowing me the honor of speaking to you tonight. My years at Drexel have been full of won- derful experiences for which I will always be grateful. My hope now is that the classes to follow will find their years just as fulfilling. qSummationj SAL UTA TORIAN Debra Rose Bauerle When we began school 12 long years ago, our basic goal was to graduate: to get out of school as soon as possi- ble with as little effort as possible. As we grew up and en- tered high school, the path to graduation became crossed with other ambitions. We became involved in sports, art, music, drama, and strangely enough, grades. For the years we remained in high school, these different areas took on different meanings for each of us. Only then did we begin to realize that school taught us other lessons be- sides reading, writing, and arithmetic. We learned sports- manship and teamwork from our athletic programs, which also taught us spirit and pride. We learned the value of friendship from day -to-day Contact with our schoolmates. Perhaps the most valuable we learned was the value of hard work and a good education from our teachers and adminis- trators. A good education not only enables you to enter a good college and get a good job, but it makes you a well -rounded person. It allows you to understand and deal with the responsibilities and problems on this some- times difficult world. My education at Drexel High School would not be complete without the.small but significant lessons I learned outside the classroom. Among these were the principles of truth, discipline, honesty, and enthusiasm. These cannot be found in books but are essential to build- ing a person's character. Twenty years from now I may have forgotten how to figure square roots and reconcile bank statements but I hope to remember some other lessons that school taught me. I wish to thank you, the faculty and especially the administrators, for these special lessons you taught me. Whether or not we learned them well you may never know, but you will know that you gave us an education not only in the real sense but in another sense as well. The friend- ship, spirit, leadership, discipline, sense of responsibility, and, above all, pride, that we the Seniors gained in school will enrich our lives and remain with us throughout the years. qSummationj V1 Class Wits: Best Dressed: Masculine and Feminine: Flirt 8: Wolf: S. At the beginning of the year they are children, at the end they are ex- pected to be young adults, The two skills needed for young adults are, first, the ability to get along with others and second, the ability to follow directions. Fifth grade has meant exploration, discovery and growth for sicteen boys and eight girls. They have explored such things as: the classification of living thingss the anatomy and func- tion of the various systems of the hu- man bodyg the causes of weatherz and the growth of our country from the early explorers to our present system of government. Math has not only been the rediscovery of the basic op- erations, it has also included the ex- ploration of fractions, measurement, and geometry. During the schoolyear the students have tried their hand at many things such as: outlining, writings balancing a checkbooks dribbling a basketbalh map reading: rope jumping: and graphmaking. They have grown a year older, not just physically and mentally, but hopefully they have also grown a year wiser in discovery of themselves. C URRI C UL UM ENRI CHMEN T Gail Barnes Enriching the curriculum of the students enrolled in this pro- gram has proved to be an easier task this year due to the following reasons: the program being a year older, knowing the students as individuals, and knowing their capacities in various areas. All twelve students have progressed in some way, emotionally or ed- ucationally, mainly because they wanted to, and without their will, there is little that can be done. SUCCESSFUL SEASO The Varsity boys got a slow start in Basketball after recent participation in the State football play -offs. They had only one practice before the Conference Tournamnet, but had a good show- ing regardless. Defeating Ballard 59-56, the Bobcats claimed first place in the Archie Tournament. We were seated first but lost in our Regional. Ending record for Varsity was 16 wins and 6 losses. The B- Team had a fine season.Their record was 7 wins, 3 losses. This year's team did not have a single big star but the stress was put on team balance. There are several young promising players for fut- ure teams.
