Classes SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September, nineteen and thirty-four, seventy-five little boys and girls with then- faces shining came to Drexel School. Some of us were happy, some of us were worried about what the teachers would do to us, but all of us were thrilled that we had started on a journey that could lead to graduation from high school. Only fifty-five in nineteen and forty-one were left to graduate from the Seventh Grade, twenty-seven boys and twenty- eight girls. A few additions swelled our Freshmen enrollment to sixty. We stu- dents felt our importance of being in high school. Miss Short and Mrs. Collins were very helpful in getting us prepared for our Sophomore year. Mrs. Clapp, our homeroom teacher, gave us a party, which we enjoyed very much. During this year we lost several members, but in our Junior year we increased by three members. Betty Jean Bowman from Wichita. Kansas, Betty Walters from Hildebran and Lewis Small from Valdese. The Junior-Senior Banquet, which was held at the Community Build- ing in Morganton, was the highlight of the year. We reached our highest point of dignity (Seniors) with twenty-nine members. Dur- ing this year Gladys Whitener from Hilde- bran and Jolene Miller from Hudson joined us, making a total of thirty-one members. In our Senior year Mr. Hallyburton enter- tained us on several different occasions, which we all enjoyed very much. At the Junior-Senior Banquet we all felt very dig- nified sitting back and watching the Ju- niors do all the work. Now, as our High School days are com- pleted, we prepare to go into the world, knowing that our school days at Drexel have been delightful and eventful. SENIOR CLASS.
