Some mighty peculiar noises may be overheard during the first period every morning, but the final result is the kind of stirring music that contributes so much to our school spirit. The Drewry Mason Band, under the able direction of John M. Creger, works with a membership of twenty-six. The members of the band feel that music is more than a form of self-expressiong it is a universal language that surmounts regional limita- tions. For this reason, their purposes are not merely to participate in school activities and achieve an increasing skill on their instruments, but to stimulate an interest in the many types of music. There is still more to a band than music, of course, and the experience provides much valuable social training in the fine art of working together. For the first time, the Drewry Mason Band was able to send a mem- ber to participate in the All-State Band. On February 4, Peggy Warren, clarinet, represented the school in a large concert band formed from the best players in western Virginia. PEGGY WARREN Represents in concert band MR. Their responsibilities include: C15 assisting their bus drivers in maintaining discipline and quietness, 121 supervising students crossing the highways, and 135 helping keep a record of students transported each day. The Safety Patrol has special du- ties in regard to such eventualities as accidents and fire drills. The group attended a state-sponsored meeting at Ridgeway for all Patrol members of Henry County.
