GMA PHI STUDENT ASSIS TA TS Sigma Phi is the honorary academic fraternity con- sisting of students, faculty, and alumni. Founded in 1930, the society selects students of high scholastic achievement for membership each year. The requirements for election are a cumulative average of 2.52 for 90 to 100 hours of study and an average of 2.35 for 105 hours. Elections are held in December, February and May and are limited to fifteen per cent of the senior class. Those seniors elected in December 1962 were Caroline Davis and David Frame, concentrating in English Literature, Jacqueline Jones, concentrating in mathe- matics, Robert Kaye, concentrating in Zoology, and Lloyd Stires, concentrating in psychology. Tom Henderson, Walter Achtert, Dick Olmsted, Perry Hess, Herman Bosch, Fred Hust, Bill Merz, SEATED: Ellen Earp, Cathy Travis, Dianne Murphy, Valerie Green- Z Student assistants perform a variety of tasks, the extent of which depend on the size and nature of the particular departments. Duties encompass any or all of the following: assisting in the preparation of library materials for teaching purposes, preparation of exper- iments and laboratory materials, marking such quizzes and exercises as have been planned for student correction, assisting with administrative procedures normal to the teaching process, taking part in elementary instruction in the presence of the regular instructor, conducting remedial conferences and make-up exercises. Most of the student assistants plan to continue into graduate work and teach as a career.
