In addition to a program of secular Christmas numbers, the annual Christmas concert was highlighted by the presenta- tion of Vivaldi's Gloria. For the first time in years, choir members enjoyed a vaca- tion at Semester Break by having their traditional mid-winter tour in February. On the tour they sang a selection of sacred and secular music for audiences in the Pitts- burg area and once again enjoyed another five days of church suppers, early morn- ing risings, and long, sleepy bus rides. For the Spring concert the choir was joined by the choir of the theological school in singing G.F. Handelas Dettingen Te Deum and Rejoice in t-he Lamb by Benjamin Britten. The band plays at the Albert Ben Wegener Game. BAND The Drew Band is in rehearsal when music can be heard from Bowne 'Lesture Hall on Monday afternoons. Under the capable direction of Mr. John Bunnell, the band rehearses music ranging from classical Tschaikovsky to modern Rodgers and Hammerstein. This small but interest- ed group of musicians plays during athle- tic events, notably basketball games, and participated in this year's spring produc- tion, Gypsy, OR CHE S TRA On Thursday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Bowne Lecture Hall is the scene of squeaking clarinets, clawing violins, and blasting trumpets. The event . . . weekly orchestra rehearsal. Directed by Mr. John Bunnell, conductor of the Madison High School Band, the group is composed of twenty-five or thirty semi-skilled musicians from the college, theological and graduate schools, as well as interested persons from the surrounding communities. Several of the orchestra's spirited, yet still undiscovered members made their only public appear- ance at Spring Production, where they supplied the music for the play Gypsy. WE RD Contrary to popular opinion, there has been a WERD for several years - two in fact. Due to technical dilhcul- ties beyond the control of the WERD board and stall, the station got off to a rather unheralded land in several dormitories unheardj start, but as early in the year as February, technical expert, Joe Clayton, had put the sta- tion into listenable order. With the advent of real trans- mission and the diligent exertions of Dave Leslie 81 Com- pany, WERD looks forward to the first real opportunity to demonstrate its intrinsic worth Q or lack of samej. PI Ist ROW: Valerie Greenspan, Joan Potterton, Diane Reed, Dr. The members of Drew's chapter of Pi Delta Epsilon, the national honorary journalism fraternity, are elected on the basis of their contributions to Drewls jour- nalistic endeavors. This fall ten student members and two faculty advisors were inducted into the fraternity. These in- cluded: Judy Ahlstrom, Genie Carter, George Eckstein, George Enslee, Roberta Gallagher, Valerie Greenspan, Ward Landrigan, Dianne Murphy, Joan Potter- ton, Charles Semel, and Dr. Joy B. Phil-I lips and Mr. John Bevan. Pi Delta Epsi- lon seeks to provide programs of interest to student journalists and to uphold high standards in college publications. This year Adam Kaufman served as presi- dent, Phyllis Bailey as secretary, and Mrs. Jacqueline Berke as advisor.
