The twelve years that seemed to be an etermty today are a reallty and only a mere flash of ume lt seems almost lxke yesterday when tune of the present tlurty members of the senror class started to school one Monday mornxng September 8 1947 For a group of s1x year olds we were notsy and unafrald The study hall keepers wrll tell you that we had not changed when we reached hlgh school Unllke other flrst graders who came to learn to read and wnte our parucular group came to see and be seen Mrs M1nn1e Webb tned to corral us Kathryn Crook Velma Jones Wanda Gu1n DeCal Jones Eugene Jordan Don Pace C L Pennlngton Harold West and J L Wh1te The followlng year Mrs Wlnfred Wtlmoth recelved thls neatly packaged deal Raymond Lansdale from Wllmot mak1ng a total of ten ln 1959 Mrs Marie Cruce had the responstblltty of herdrng these screamxng youngsters To bnng up the unlucky number of thtrteen Allan Mltchell from Llttle Rock Ima Lloyd from Prarre Grove and Wanda Knowles from the Valley enrolled Wllh us ln the fourth grade we moved to the folds of Mrs Dorothy Longhafer and Mrs Doyle Gladden Flve new students amved Kathryn McKeown Mary Ann Free and Nelhe Jo Mrllen from Montongo Juan Rabb from Myhand and Lena Feeser from the Sheridan Yellowjackets The f1fth grade and Mrs Leslxe Beard and Mrs Polly Henderson brought us no addxtxon and one crease We lost Ima Lloyd to the Hxllbtlltes and later to Ltttle Rock s Central Hlgh The next year we were the envy of elementary school we had the h1ghest honor of belng tn the stxth grade Mrs Lucy Mae Hatsty and Mrs Downey Jones gutded our footsteps We received a new class mate from Calrfornta Ray Prlcher We celebrated our s1xth grade graduauon wtth a bang up pxcntc In the seventh grade Mrs Earl Wxllrs helped us to get started That year we had no new members Mr Slurley Deal took care of us dunng our erghth grade year Jxmmy Whrte Jolned us from Enon We looked forward to our freshman year and the group of youngsters from Enon Thls year brought us Peggy Gober Ronme Jusuce John Lane Chrlstene Hatley, and Patsy Klrton Mrs Wllham B811 took charge of us The next year our sophomore year brought us a schoolmate from Llttle Rock Barbara Hudson Mrs Wlllls Leslle helped us move into the long study hall how proud we were The girls were allowed to serve at the junior and Semor Banquet As Juntors vanous members of us were allowed 1nto the Nauonal Honor Soctety The Jumor and Senlor Banquet welcomed us The banquet was held Aprll 4 and the theme was a Satellrte Ball The wonderful banquet was worth worktng ln the concesslon stand all year Class rxngs were ordered tn January 1958 September 1958! Semorsl Thrs called for a celebratlon and actually tt lasted all year W trted to perform a mlnimum of work and a maxrmum of fun From Selma came Lonne H111 David Howard Manrtce Moore and Nrna Scroggms and from Central Htgh came lma Lloyd to make a total of thrrty Our Sentor prctures amved 1n trme for Chnstmas from Porter s Studto In November our class nngs arrived People thought we had a broken arm the way we kept shovrng them tn their faces Allan Mrtchell was chosen as our President Harold West as Vice President Kathryne Crook as Secretary Treasurer and Kathryn McKeown as Reporter Class colors were red and whxte the flower, a gardema and our motto Less than our best is fatlure The tradlttonal sentor tnp was to Pet1t Jean State Park Baccalaureate and Commencement were held on May 10 and 15, 1959 So completes our htstory Every class that follows wtll have a htstory of its own.
