Zimmer, Superintendent of Schools, who is retiring after thirty-nine years of service to our school. We believe Draper School has been singularly fortunate in having a man ot such high integrity as its guide and administrative head tor such a long period of years. Under his capable leadership our school has grown from a two-room school to a large suburban one that is known throughout the state tor its high standards of education. This would not have been possible without his outstanding leadership and unseltish service to our school. It is with a sense of real loss that we say goodbye to Mr. Zimmer, our beloved Superintendent of Schools, and we wish him every success and happiness in his new undertaking. til es i W Administration TO THE CLASS OF 1949 Our nation, our representative democracy, must have intelligent citizens in order to live. The public schools have been given responsibility for providing a basic education for all the children of all the people in order that our citizens will be able to par- ticipate intelligently in our government. l-low well the schools succeed will be shown by your life as a citizen. My best wishes go with you as you leave Draper. HOWARD E. BAKER, Principal AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL The American high school is not something fixed, static, unchanging: it is a growth, reflecting the changing social, domestic and economic ar rangements of our national life more accurately and completely than any other institution. lt mirrors the national ideals and aspirations. The high school gathers into itself an even larger share of the life of our youth. Now it i reaching out for the adult also, offering him a share of its wealth. Therefore, our problems are many and diversified, and we must always endeavor to make the courses preparatory for college, and a finishing school for that portion of our youth who decide tc go directly from high school into the struggles of life EARL B. ZIMMER, Superintendent of Schools My sincere congratulations to the class of 194 lt has been a pleasure to know and work with yo You have distinguished yourselves in many waj while you have been in school. Because so many girls were interested in joining the club, a series of tests was established to select only those girls most keenly interested in library work. Under the librarian's supervision the girls carried on the essential duties of the lib- rary: the charging of books, preparation of new books, and maintaining neatness in the library. Money was raised for the club by selling Draper pins which proved very popular with the school. IWWWM wp t - J QQ if QQ 26 23 36 69 '?' 36.
